I truly enjoyed watching your painting techniques while learning how to use gouache paint. Your style of impressionist painting with some details is how I try to paint landscapes. Your tutorial is educational, interesting and provide me with areas of painting with gouache to study. Thank you for this wonderful tutorial.

I've only watched about a third or a quarter of this video but i have to get ready for school and will watch the rest later but I wanted to say that I really appreciate all your hard work and effort that goes into every piece of art and every video. Good luck! and don't work too hard

Thank you so much for taking time to say that!! These videos always end up being more work than I expect haha. But they are enjoyable to make, and I really love helping people. I hope you find it useful when you get a chance to finish watching.

I'm really inspired to try this tutorial. I'm totally new to gouache so it should be interesting! Thank you for explaining how the gouache handles. I don't think I've used enough water to get mine to flow.

Would you recommend the stay wet palette for gouache then?
@SarahBurnsStudio6 жыл бұрын
Yes absolutely, I don't use gouache without it!

Hi Sarah, could you say what colours you have out on your palette at 1'12" in? It would be most helpful for a gouache beginner. Great demo, by the way!
@SarahBurnsStudio4 жыл бұрын
That palette contains: Titanium white, Burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna, Raw Umber, Permanent Yellow Light, Leaf Green, Olive Green, Cerulean Blue, French Ultramarine, Cobalt Blue, Prussian Blue, Indigo and Black. HOWEVER this is way too many colors, especially for beginners. I was testing out some of these new colors and did not use every single color for the painting. Mainly I only use the primaries (red/yellow/blue, plus black/white) to mix my colors . I have more updated tutorials and process videos since posting this video. I think I will probably end up deleting this video because it's outdated (in my opinion).

@@SarahBurnsStudio Many thanks for colour info. Noooooooo!!!! don't delete this video - I need it to study and practise from first. The choice of a blue background surface seems to have quite an effect on the finished piece. Interesting you use oil painting turps /linseed 'dippers' as your water cups....
@SarahBurnsStudio4 жыл бұрын
Ok, I'll leave it up for a while. I actually forgot about it! With the "dippers" I like to have a small water source right on my palette, because to keep the gouache flowing smoothly I need to constantly dip my brush. If you let your brush dry out completely, it gets harder to lay down smooth layers. The paper or canvas will instantly start soaking up your water. But you also don't want to water down the gouache too much (usually)...so it's a fine line we must walk!

@@SarahBurnsStudio Just a few more questions : on your 'cheat sheet' at 1'33", in the first column there's a green (5 colours down) - is that same as the Leaf Green you have out on the palette? Also, have you put out a pre-mixed grey on the palette? Can you say why use canvas board rather than paper for the project? thanks
@SarahBurnsStudio4 жыл бұрын
Oh! Yes that is permanent green deep. Its good for shadow tones of foliage. And the grey is a premixed neutral grey. I used canvas paper just to test it out because i was curious. I much prefer hot press watercolor paper now. I actually don't really like very textured surface for gouache

hi Sarah.......how did you come to using gouache on an acrylic background?.....
