Good day Sarah, you always make painting with gouache paints like a cool walk in the park. It's just amazing and encourages me to continue pushing myself.

Hey Sarah, this is my first time watching and am wanting to play more with my gouache. Only have done a few paintings and am frustrated with it probably because I’m coming from regular watercolor use. Originally acrylics. I see you barely use water. I realize I probably won’t get an answer back as I sounds like you are going after some fine goals which inspires me. You’re just what I needed to find here on KZbin. I’m a regular searching for beginner to intermediate although I’ve been painting for 20 years. Not regularly. Hearing about the stories and illustrations you want to do and well…. So much more to say but I admire your interests and should checkout your vlog. You make this look easy and it looks like u put out way more from the tube than I do … perhaps bc I’m thinking watercolor. I’ll try your way. Much luck and I want to jump ahead to see what you’re up to but need to watch more here before you progress even more.

Such a beautiful kitty! Thanks for sharing your process. I’m just getting back into gouache after a long hiatus, like a year, so it’s learning all over again.

I'm using mason jars for tube storage (James Gurney tip). Keep sharing the challenges. I learn something every time.
@SarahBurnsStudio4 жыл бұрын
I’ve started to store tubes inside airtight containers (each medium gets its own container), and they stack perfectly on my shelf so it’s working great!

That bag and those kitties are adorable. You are beyond talented. Do you like/make abstract paintings?
@SarahBurnsStudio3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I LOVE abstract art. Before I started with landscapes, I painted abstract painting a little bit here and there as a form of therapy. I follow tons of abstract artists because it sooths my soul.
@Cobaltblueprism3 жыл бұрын
@@SarahBurnsStudio Me too. Abstract is therapeutic for sure. Could you do a watercolor or gouache paint-along of your abstracts and share some of your past recent abstract work? Which abstract artists do you follow?
@SarahBurnsStudio3 жыл бұрын
@@Cobaltblueprism I probably wouldn't do a tutorial and paintalong for it. My current faves are Alice Sheridan, Andrea Soos, Emma Lindstrom, Victoria Wylie
@larrymisiak915 Жыл бұрын
Do you use watercolor and gouache interchangeably?
@SarahBurnsStudio Жыл бұрын
Typically I just dilute the gouache for an underlayer, before using thicker gouache on top. But yes, you can mix watercolor and gouache.
@nauci5 жыл бұрын
Landscape painting feels like "ez mode" to me because I'm a portrait painter, though I don't nail the values and shapes 1/10th so well as you do. It just feels so much easier because precision is nearly irrelevant in comparison to making someone recognizable. I'm so excited to see your MerMay pieces
@SarahBurnsStudio5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say irrelevant, there are other issues in play with landscapes especially when incorporating architecture or geological features. They each have their own challenges! But we are extremely good at seeing flaws in human form and it's harder to forgive unless it is clearly the intention of the artist
@nauci5 жыл бұрын
@@SarahBurnsStudio I feel like when I am millimeters off in a portrait, my subject looks 50x worse. Nailing it is still just as impactful with landscapes, but messing it up is a bit less punishing. But I never have to worry about perspective lines or many other aspects either.

Also wait what Holbein Gouache gives me PTSD because it was so chalky and awful and fast drying and sandy for me :o it's the only medium that makes me feel like I'm fighting against it every moment I am working
@SarahBurnsStudio5 жыл бұрын
Really??? Wow I never experienced that. I LOVE IT
@nauci5 жыл бұрын
@@SarahBurnsStudio maybe because I started with acrylics and oils, so in contrast to buttery smooth oils gouache feels like painting with sand... Or I just need to use it with my stay wet palette paper.
