Hello to Greece. Would you kindly please tell me how authentic Greek dressing is made. I had some today at a Greek restaurant and I did not taste any vinegar.
@ΜαριάνναΔρούζα5 жыл бұрын
@@janetholmes6659 Good morning! In Greek salad, anyone can put whatever he wants. The dressing in restaurant, normally is optional. Although, we prefer a combination of olive oil, salt , oregano and some people put vinegar too. Vinegar is something extra that elevates the plate, but not all people like it. So, its up to you. Hope i helped :)
@janetholmes66595 жыл бұрын
@@ΜαριάνναΔρούζα Yes you did. Thanks. Does it matter what brand of olive oil to use?

@@janetholmes6659 Nah. But its better taste to choose virgin olive oil. But not too much. Because it has a full flavour.

I recommend adding feta cheese after tossing the salad with dressing. That will keep the fresh taste of cheese instead of it being soaked in oil. But it depends what you like.

In my family, we don't put garnish and oregano, etc. we just use tomatoes, cucumber, onion, sirene, olive oil, and vinegar. (I prefer mine without onion, but that's just my opinion. I always make my dressing first and then add the sliced onions. I find letting them sit in the dressing will take some of the strong bite out of them so that they don’t overpower the rest of the ingredients. In the time it takes me to chop everything, the onions have mellowed. I also agree with another comment about adding the feta cheese last so that the flavour stays unique and fresh. Thanks for sharing this! I’m going to try adding the mustard, something I’ve never tried before.

If you have not tried this, I encourage you.. it's just fantastic. As the guy says, you can customise it: I love onion, so I put heaps, and I also love a tangy flavor so I put heaps of vinegar. This salad, plus some good crusty bread = an excellent meal. Also, you can use dried versions of all those herbs if you don't have them OR omit them all entirely and just use a bit of black pepper (NO salt! The cheese and olives are saturated in salt) it still tastes fantastic
