The rhythm and cadence of Hungarian sounds so similar to Finnish and Estonian. If not for the "rounder" sounds of Hungarian, it would probably be harder for me to distinguish it from those two.

I think there is some pinches of similarities with italian also in the joyful sunny expressive intonation also.

I don't know whether you intentionally gave these two languages as an example because you know, but Hungarian is, in fact, related to Estonian and Finnish.

Unfortunately it's what caused me to give up 10 years ago. I nailed the grammar (just about) and got the feel of it, but because it's a Uralic language, literally no word seemed familiar to me and it became a huge slog of memorization. I mean, it's so distantly related to almost every language except Khanty and Mansi (and yes it is quite distantly related to Finnic languages) that it almost felt like a language isolate. Just learning odd sounding words after odd sounding words. And then if you pause your learning for a few months, you forget half of it. I absolutely love Hungary and Hungarians and the Hungarian language but I simply do not have the time or energy to learn this sublime language. Still, I will always tell a Hungarian that I feel if God were to invent a perfect natural language, the grammar would look like Hungarian grammar!

Ez nagyon jól sikerült, gratulálok. :) A közösség emberei látszik, hogy érdeklődnek a történelem és a kultúra iránt. Talán ha az utca emberét kérdezted volna meg, nem lettek volna ilyen jó válaszok. A téma is kifejezetten jó, főleg, hogy a magyarok szeretnek a múltról beszélni! :D De úgy látszik, van olyan, aki a jövőről is!

In Hungarian, I have a problem when distinguishing mi/ami and milyen/melyik. Could anyone tell me the difference?

Personal favorites of mine are the oversized ones. @@monikaherath7505 In which universe would /s/ and /z/ give you the /ʃ/ sound? That's completely illogical. Hungarian got it right by assigning the /ʃ/ sound to the letter S. That way when it's combined with the Z, it gives you the /s/ sound, which is basically what happens when you try to say /ʃ/ and /z/ at the same time.

@@tommeiner9983 It wouldn't. The illogical move was assigning "sz" to the most common phoneme in language. It makes the orthography look quite odd and unwieldy, and I agree with the poster that it could have done with reform centuries ago. A different digraph could have been used to represent /ʃ/

@@monikaherath7505 The most common phoneme in Hungarian is E. SZ is not even the most common consonant in Hungarian, in fact it's not even more common than S itself... You're talking about what suits your taste, instead of what's logical.
