Maine woods * I’m an 80 year old man living by myself in the Maine woods. I have a lot of trouble walking so needed something to stay busy. I ordered the whole set of looms, round and the long ones. I really enjoy knitting on them and give most of my stuff away. Your videos are easy to follow. Just made this set of slipper/socks and by far the best. Thank you.

I started these with Seasons bulky yarn but mine stitches looked much looser than video. So I switched to Wool-Ease Thick and Quick (super bulky) and liked the results much better and looked a lot more like the video and the written pattern, which I did buy. I love them. I have 3 skeins and think I will get 2 pairs from that and plan to make the leg part a little longer - maybe 10 rows instead of five. Thank you so much for the video and the heel video was super helpful as well! I did not do it right on my first try and "got it" after watching the heel video.

I modified this a bit to make the cuff thicker and the ankle bit longer. Rather than 10 rows for the cuff, I did 16, and rather than 5 for the top of the ankle (from the cuff to the heel), I did 10 rows rather than 5. That seemed to fit my grandad a bit better than the shorter ankle. This was so easy, though, thanks so much for sharing!

Thank you. Question: could this be done so it would be with a long neck and be more like a "crew sock"? Something like this would make great winter socks for those of us who work outside in the snowy winter months and are tired of spending the extra dollars for so-called "thermal" socks that are nothing more than different colored regular socks and do not help keep your feet that much warmer than the regular crew socks. So, one would add more rows before making the heel?

Can’t wait to use this tutorial! I have knitted socks with sock yarn before on double ended needles, but I assume that will be too thin for a loom. What type of yarn should I use? Is acrylic itchy for socks? Thank you ☺️
@GinaLay2 жыл бұрын
With this loom, I use a #5 🧶 yarn. I link an example in the description box so you can take a look at the exact yarn and #. With this look a thin yarn won’t work well. I am so excited for you. Keep in mind this is very different than needle knitting. Some people find this easier because they can’t manage two needles. I know you will make an awesome pair of slipper socks and I am excited to see how you like it. Thanks for being part of my little community! 😊🙏💕

@GinaLay2 ай бұрын
Awhhh, thank you! 🙏 That’s so very sweet of you to say. I have never used a smaller gauge loom before. One day I might try. Do you have any suggestions on the type of looms or what to make? ❤️❤️❤️Thanks for being part of my channel! 🙏
@momoeverbloom32402 ай бұрын
@GinaLay 3/8 gauge is the most common used small gauge, honestly you can make next to anything haha! Hats, scarves, blankets and even socks are fantastic in small gauge. I personally love KB small gauge looms, but the flexee looms are great too. That being said, they all do the same thing really so any 3/8 gauge loom so long as you have the right amount of pegs will work just as good as the branded versions. I am a blanket maker myself, I also use e-wrap over other knit stitches due to damaged nerves in my hands and it can be quite painful to do tight stitches so for blankets I use the KB Afghan loom and the multi knit adjustable purple loom. For hats I use flexee skinny and a neat cheap set of small gauge looms I found on Amazon. It's quite interesting to see stitch definitions change from chunky gauge like your video here to smaller gauge too but project wise you can do anything from large gauge patterns as well. Being in the UK it's easier for me to get #4 weight yarn than it is the chunky yarn used for larger loom gauges haha 😆

Oh wow! This is great information!! Thank you! 🙏 I will take a screenshot and look into these.♥️ I appreciate the suggestions so much. I will keep you informed for sure if I decide to try. 💕Thank you again for being here!

If you put your yarn through a short drinking straw (about 4 inches long, use a crochet hook) before you start, it will greatly increase you wrapping speed.

Do you know why final product may be a bit loose? I used a 24 peg loom like you did. The only thing that was different is I used a bit thicker of a yarn? Do I need to be wrapping each peg tighter then? This was my first ever knitting project and your video was SUPER helpful so thank you!!
@GinaLay4 жыл бұрын
Awh thank you! When you wrap the pegs try to remember somewhere in between.. not too tight but not too loose. . I hope that makes sense. Also make sure you are knitting and ending your slipper where you can just see the tip of your big toe. 🤗
@Matt768914 жыл бұрын
@@GinaLay ohhh thank you for the response. I think I mean to clarify what I meant though: I meant loose as in the knits all around are kinda loose. I am not entirely sure how best to explain it but overall sock is kinda loose not necessarily "fit" per se. Thank you again for taking the time to respond to questions!!
