When I am "frankenbatting" in order to get straight edges, I lay them on top of each other and make a cut to have the same edges to butt together with a multi stitch zig zag. This eliminated the ripply seam. Thanks for your clever videos.

I have a Husqvarna Viking machine that I use for retreats and love it. Hope you get many years of enjoyment with yours. I always admire your straight forward approach to sewing and quilting. Your quilts are always beautiful and inspire me to start a new project. I want to try and do my own quilting. I typically send mine out to be quilted, but watching you makes me think I could be successful. Of course, you make everything look easy!!😁

I also noticed that with poly batting, it is helpful to add pins even if using spray as it is slippery. Cotton or 80/20 batting is much less slippery. Glad to see people quilting their own quilts on their machine. I also do my binding as you showed with sewing to the back and top stitching on the front. It is strong, fast, and looks good.

Before zigzagging the batting, line up the batting pieces and with a pencil make a horizontal mark every six inches across the pieces. When sewing, match up the marks. This will help eliminate the gaps or stretching or bunching of the batting.

Looks like a sturdy machine. Love your choice of a denim look background. It isnt a color i would chose, but it really works for a little boys quilt.
@Marialla.4 ай бұрын
I like to use the three-step zigzag if I can, for butted seams. Regular zigzag can sometimes bunch up a bit of material inside the stitch, but 3-step always lies flat. It's also good for plain overlapped seams, or any seam finish that you need to flatten and disperse the pull on that fabric. (Like maybe when working with a fraying fabric edge.)

@dianeholiday68444 ай бұрын
Great video. I have used my domestic sewing machine for quilting all of my baby and throw size quilts. I found it interesting that you did not use any pinning of the body before quilting. I have used spray adhesive and have found it not to hold well enough to keep the movement of fabric from puckering so I have always pinned. What brand is your adhesive? I also use bed sheets for backings. It is a very economical option. I will go to resale stores and look for high-end flat sheets in colors and or patterns that will be good for background or backing.
