Lol literally the exact same design i did on my swing bracket. Get a bit box tube off cut on the back of ur shower, then put two bits of angle on ur tent about half way along, to give the tent box tube some where to slot into when its closed. Taking pressure off ur hinge, and latch and adding some support. I also used over centre latch as i dont trust those pool fence latches to last on corrugated roads. I also used a tent pole to support it when its opened out. Solid asf.

Thanks mate, that's a great idea! Just did a trip to Birdsville over some heavy corrugated road and it held together, however, think your idea would be a better long term solution.

Looking to do something similar on the side of our teardrop. You're right, will need to find a heftier hinge I think. Thanks for sharing!

I ended up making a much stronger hinge from a pair of awning brackets supplied by the bush company. Still working a treat! Thanks for watching!

Great video mate, what upgrade on the hinge did you use? Looking to do this for my camper cheers.

Thanks mate! I ended up using the awning bracket mounts for the bush company 270 XT Max Awning. They are designed to be an 'L' shape, the simply bolt together, I put a nylon nut on them instead so it hinges, its so much better now. I I have had a re think though, I'm thinking a heavy duty drawer locking drawer slide might be the go. That way it can simply slide back to open the tent up, then slide back in to lock into place. Might be much simpler and stronger. Good luck! Richard

@MudModsBeers28 күн бұрын

Nice vid, looking to do the same here in the States, what brand latch did you use...Thanx and many blessings!

Thanks for watching! The latch was for a pool fence gate. Has a magnetic clasp in it so closes easily. Glad you liked the video mate!

Any update on this set-up?hehe,,planning to do this on my set up..
@MudModsBeers Жыл бұрын
Hi Mate, yes, did make a way stronger hinge bracket using some awning brackets I had for the roof top tent. These are way stronger. Still happy with how it all works, however, I am thinking of changing it up and using a heavy duty drawer slide instead, not sure yet. Changing up the canopy and will wait and see how it all fits together first. Thanks for watching!

Heya, what length has strut did you use?
@MudModsBeers Жыл бұрын
Hi Kate, at full extension it’s 34cm long. The barrel itself is 16cm. Only a little one. If I had to do it again, I’d get a slightly longer one that would have more pressure. Thanks for watching!

Using a grinder without eye protection DUMB 101. I've know two people that lost an eye each do to this lazy way. Both different shops, but had combined 41 years of fabwork experience

Thanks for comment mate. Just tested it on a 4000km trip out to the Simpson and back, worked perfectly and was so handy to set up and pack each day. Still haven't got around to changing anything form the video, not sure if I need to now.
