I had not heard of "blooming" rice before, so I did some research and found out it means soaking the rice (which has been scored briefly in a food processor) in a jar for 12-18 hours. Thanks for sharing, John and Lauren!

How about placing in oven on lowest temp to keep warm in winter or cooler months? Places rice in a pan rather than a jar for the oven option.

John, you inspired me to start growing micro-greens and sprouts. I still eat mostly cooked vegan foods, but I want to gradually increase my intake of raw foods to get more balance in my diet. Not sure what I'll end-up doing with cooked vs raw ratios, but I know I should be eating more fresh and raw foods. Your two channels are my favorites on YT. Wish you and Lauren great success with your new book, and I hope you two can continue helping others together on YT. :)

Looks like a great recipe. I tried soaking black rice before and after 4 days it still wasn't soft enough to consume. I will try the vacuum method and leaving it in the sun. Thanks for the tip.

It’s so funny. After years of watching John on his various channels, I still am not really a fan of raw food. Buuuuuuuuut, I have gone plant-based. I’ve Been plant-based for 9 months and I’ve lost 55 lbs! I need to get the recipe book and see if I learn to like more raw foods.

Be careful not to lose too much weight or too fast. Might want to add more fats such as coconuts, nuts, seeds and legumes to control the weight loss. Losing about 1 pound per week is healthy. There are calculators for ideal body weight on the internet for your age and height.
@Clothmom1
@Clothmom1 6 жыл бұрын
Valken thank you for your concern. I started off obese and have only been losing around 1 lb. per month the last 4 months or so. I’m still not considered at “ideal” weight for my height and build even though I am a normal BMI and thinner than I was in college. It’s crazy how low some of the “ideal” body weight charts go for women. I still have over 7 lbs. to go to get there. I’ve started lifting weights with a trainer too, to make sure I stay strong.

As you add more raw foods into your diet, they will grow on you. Actually, if you were to eat only raw/live foods for three months and then went back to cooked foods, you would then clearly experience the difference they make to your body and health.

Yes, There are other brands that "claim" they are raw. That being said ,I would prefer using coconut aminios over braggs or soy sauce. It is used in a very small amount.

Can you use, Hot distilled water, if you do not have a vacuum devise? As you know, in the canning process a food is heated up and then allowed to cool. This will create a vacuum. But for your application I would just heat the water and add the rice. Would this be ok?

Brendan From what I remember something grows on cooked rice that produces arsenic after it cools down.
@chrisklest1238
@chrisklest1238 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, you're right. I would need to search for the source again, but what I remember is that it's either a bacteria or fungus that'll grow on the rice after it has cooled down that converts inorganic arsenic to organic arsenic which is more difficult for the body to remove. I guess it's good to treat rice like beans and give them an extra soak and rinse.
