Jessica, I’m a 66 year old wife, mother and grandmother who thoroughly enjoys your channel. Do not assume that everyone knows how to do simple meals. I experienced this first hand this past Friday evening. Three ladies from my church came to my house to prepare food for an event at church. Two of the ladies were a few years older than me and one was in her 40’s. None of them had kitchen skills. I had to show them how to use a knife and cutting board. They were shocked that both my husband and I cook almost every meal at home. None of them do. We had a simple dinner ready for them. They were shocked. Jessica, you always say you are a homeschool mom to your family. Your channel provides valuable information on many subjects to your viewers. Don’t apologize for simplicity, that’s the foundation so many need. Continue your journey in providing excellent content.

I love watching these videos even though my children are long grown and gone and I have zero need to cook in bulk. It is nice seeing basic skills being handed down to the next generation and a family thriving in a more natural manner than having Captain Crunch for breakfast, Oreos for morning snack, Lunchables and pop for lunch, potato child for afternoon or nighttime snacks and frozen pizza or chicken nuggets and fries for dinner.

One of our repeated favorites is “Meatballs and Red Gravy.” It’s a recipe from my mother-in-law, a mom of six kids spread out in ages. Instead of a single meatloaf, she made her regular meatloaf recipe and then formed it into meatballs in appropriate sizes for each child. She baked them a bit in the oven before adding her gravy. One night she did something a little different; added a can of Campbells Tomato Soup (with one can water each can). She served the meatballs with the “red gravy” over mashed potatoes… and a favorite meal was born. Each child, especially the little ones were very happy with their very own meatball! BTW, once baked a bit in the oven, these meatballs freeze well and can be used in multiple ways! I find it amazing that favorite meals are often created by accident! 😎

@three rivers homestead The best tip I ever got on your channel (and there have been alot!) was a couple of years ago when you said we needed to use what we worked so hard to grow/find/preserve. I was having a ball preserving the way I have for years - being prepared to meet the needs of others. I looked around and realised this is no longer the home of years past. I had no need to preserve in the same way. So I took time to assess fiercely what my life is now, what I had, what I really needed, what I could manage and started planning and using accordingly. I've been doing pantry challenge for 2 (maybe 3 years?). Benji was a tiny on your back when I started watching. I'm gaining control for this new life. People would't think a channel about a family with 9 littles would be helpful for a family of 1, but it is. Principles never change.

Jessica, I want you to know that showing these simple healthy meals is IMPORTANT! Many people have seen only recipes that are like rich decadent holiday meals. I don't quite know how to clearly explain what I mean. This is the kind of meals served in 1960's when the people were healthier. No recipes needed just show it again and again please. You are being a great example. It seems boring to you but it's important to show.

Hi Jessica, I appreciate all the details you share. Often it seems the hardest part of preparing a meal is figuring out what to make! So it’s good to have those ideas stirred even old faithful go to meals 😊 thanks I especially enjoy your organization!

I was so blessed too receive extra veggies and fruits so I canned celery soup starter, kosher followers and sweet pickled peppers, canned cauliflower, carrot, onion nixed veggies, chicken and bone broth canned and have apples lefted too finish. And I still have a half gallon bag of peppers,I might try a stir fried chicken blend or chicken salad sandwich spread and more canned meatballs & Salisbury steaks. I was blessed with a pie crust and sugar for fruits, so u will try a pop tart.

I really enjoyed this video. Normal. Getting back into a routine. So relatable. New subscriber here. I went back to some of your older videos to get to know you a bit. I really appreciate your testimony. We are building our own homestead and are hoping to move there this spring. I have one child with severe food allergies, very few people understand. It felt so relatable to me. I had to keep blinking back tears. Unless you have your own people really don't understand the choice to not attend some functions, or the need to leave early etc. Appreciate your content and looking forward to learning from you.

Don’t worry about showing simple but delicious meals, sometimes just seeing this sparks some ideas:) Sometimes I forget even the simplest food combos that once was our favorite other times I’m learning new ways of doing/serving something. Thanks for sharing!

I love watching you cook!!!! I don't really care if you repeat the methods or recipes. It is just so wonderful hearing your commentary and seeing your beautiful family. It is my escape from all the negativity in the world today. I had totally forgotten about rice cakes. It has been forever since I bought any. In addition to chicken salad they would be perfect for tuna salad, hummus (sliced tomat/cucumbers), nut or seed butter/bananas etc. I will get some next time I am at the store. Thank you for sharing your farm life with us. Wishing you all the best! ❤

I love to see little kids little toddlers, eating the same meals as mom and dad or their older brothers and sisters. So many families nowadays caters to each one of their children to their likes and dislikes and most of the time the choices are not healthy they’re sugar, cereals, or high processed donuts with sugar so good job mom

I was gone most of January with my husband as he was undergoing radiation treatment for cancer. We are home and he is craving all the simplest of home cooking. So I’m eager to do the pantry challenge now. Luckily, I’ve been able to get most fresh foods from Flash Foods; most produce boxes are just $5.00!
