I remember growing up in the 90s and walking into Williams-Sonoma around the holidays. They gave out peppermint bark sample and hot spiced cider. Those things are so nostalgic to me around the holidays because of those fun 90s bustling mall trips.

We made almond bark with huge blocks of white chocolate all the time when I was a kid in the ‘70s/80s. Since the block was so large (before they started selling it in smaller cubes), Mom had my sister and I chopping it up to melt in the double-boiler. Once, Sis finished her chopping before I did, and reached over with the knife to help me out. She ended up slicing across two of my fingers, a scar I still have today-my bark scar!

I would use a larger baking dish because I like peppermint bark to be thin. As a result, I would probably need to crush more peppermint candy to sprinkle on top due to the larger surface area.

Made peppermint bark last year with my daughter for the first time. Our milk chocolate cooled down a little too much, but a kitchen torch worked wonders to soften it up enough for the white chocolate
@selalewis9189Ай бұрын
Peppermint bark is so fun and easy to make. I like to marble the white chocolate in the milk/dark chocolate before topping it with crushed peppermint 😊 I’ve never really had any problems melting white chocolate in the microwave. I do tend to freeze my chocolate chips (I’ve forgotten my reasons). I warm it in a ceramic bowl in 30 second intervals until it’s soft enough to pour, just like the milk and dark chocolate.
@barbaraplante2881Ай бұрын
Great and easy recipe! I made it today. I used a 11" x 7.5" pan because I prefer a bit thinner bark. And a couple more candy canes because of the additonal surface area. Going to be gifts along with many other Christmas treats. Thanks!
@kineticfractal6804Ай бұрын
Thank you for this recipe - last Xmas, a few of the peppermint bark pieces I made separated into the separate white/chocolate layers, when cut. I looked at lots of recipes, afterwards, to try and figure out why. Thank you for the tip on preventing this problem...Merry Xmas to you and everyone! 🎄
@pattwhitmore8365Ай бұрын
I also have had the problem of separating candy in the past. I am going to make this today for Christmas gifts. I will have to adjust ... I don't have enough white chocolate so I will use Almond Bark to fill in. But I am so jazzed that my layers will not fall apart!

I love peppermint bark. Can you do a video on how you cut your parchment paper to fit an 8x8 baking dish as nicely as you have it fitting in yours?
@Volatile_AngelАй бұрын
I buy them in the precut packages, they fit a cookie tray perfectly. In this videos he’s using a paper clip to hold it up but if you’re putting it in the oven if you cut the corners and put it in a baking dish it will work. For this recipe I used the precut parchment and it goes up the sides enough that I didn’t have to cut it.

Make sure there is no water in the extract. It can make the chocolate seize. I use peppermint oil. Wilton had a good one.
@heather5769Ай бұрын
I see that he only put the peppermint into the white chocolate, I put it in the semi sweet. Which is why I have to use the peppermint oil.

I add 1 teaspoon coconut oil in both white chips & chocolate chips before melting, it gives a smooth shiny finish. Peppermint candies are cheaper than candy canes 😉

There was peppermint bark before the 90s! It was the added chocolate layer that Williams Sonoma popularized. My aunt used to make the white chocolate only bark back in the 70s and I loved it. If there was chocolate then, it was a dip or drizzle on the white chocolate.

Hi John. Love your channel. I noticed on this video and others that when you scrape things off the cutting board you very often use the sharp edge of the blade instead of the back/flat side. I was told not to do this as it dulls the blade. Was I told wrong or is this not a big concern. Thanks.
