Thank you so much!! Our family is out of town and a lost the key! You are our hero tonight!!

Thanks a bunch. I bought a vehicle 3 years ago and it didn't come with keys for the rack. I've never used the racks and decided to remove them. It worked! It took me about 10 minutes. It might have been 5 minutes, since I have no patience. I was about to give up when the lock turned about 45 degrees. A little more finagling and I was able to unlock it. Then as you did, I ran the radio tool in and out slightly while jiggling it and pulling on the cylinder with a small hook tool. Now I can order a key to unlock the rest.

Thank you KZbin University! I just found I’d lost the keys to our rack days before we had to return our lease. My plan was to pick the first and use the number to order a replacement key. But it was so easy and satisfying (and the key out-of-stock), I picked all four. Blamo! This video saved a major headache AND fulfilled a boyhood dream!

Thanks a ton. Work perfectly. Took about 2 mins with a small screwdriver and an old stereo puller.

Epic! I was able to watch this video and pick my lock within 5 min. Thanks man! Ordered the new key off Amazon using the code.

I lost the key for my Yakima rack years ago and gave this a shot, but I didn't have anything to pick it on hand. I did find a snap ring behind the key core that I was able to pop off with a couple of picks though. If you take off the snap ring you can remove the lock without a key.
@ElementofAdventure4 жыл бұрын
Yes, that works too. If I remember right, I could not get to the snap ring on the towers I was working on when I originally figured out how to pick the them.

I'm tempted to say that viewers will have a variety of success based on the arrangement of the tumblers. HOWEVER, after 10 minutes of jiggling, I was able to turn my lock and find A132 stamped on it. Reinserting the cylinder was trickier than getting it out. In order to get it back in I had to file down my flat metal in one spot in order to let one of the tumblers move back to resting position. BUT, it worked, and for $6.99 I have a key on order from Amazon. Thanks for the video. I'm guessing the blank key for removing the cylinder is just a little longer than other keys. I think it pushes on that last ring (which acts like a tumbler) which clips into the bottom of the sleeve the cylinder sits inside of, which allows the cylinder to slide out. Hopefully I used all the correct vocabulary...

Well I tried for twenty minutes and finally just took a 3/8 drill bit to it and now it’s open. Carefully did not hurt the main handle and will order new set up. I did pry off the chrome cover first

Thanks. I had lost the key to my skybox. Wasn't sure what to use but saw a metal collar stay that was the perfect size and shape. Saved me a bunch of money, although realize how easily they are to pick so likely not going to have anything really valuable in these ever...

the radio puller link is unavailable. Do you have a recommendation on another tool similar to that?

Saved my life. I bought a Front Loader cycle carrier and I managed to mistakenly insert my lock barrel into the clamp lock with the locking pin already open which made the whole rack unusable. The instructions really aren't very clear. I bet loads of buyers have done the same thing. Managed to fiddle it out with a tweezer arm. The one in the cable line lock wasn't much better - needed some WD40 to be able to turn the lock. £140 bike rack with shit locks. Good rack though - just needs a bit more thought and clarification on the instructions.

Thanks man! I tried all the little picks anything small and eventually found an old yakima key. I jiggle and shook it for few seconds and now i’m a lock pick pro. time to go terrorize people

Hi, how to put the core back without control key? Thanks!
@joeh6514 жыл бұрын
Yo, question here. You pull the whole cylinder here with the stereo key. If I'm correct you don't need to go that far and can just unlock the lock to remove the roof bars yes? That's what I'm trying to do...
@ElementofAdventure4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can just unlock the cylinders that way. Some of them may be a little harder to do depending on key configuration but I have been able to do a few different sets with this method.

Same here, bought an xB with no Yakima rack keys a year ago, finally wanted to wax and polish car and couldn't remove bars. Dealer told me to go to REI and order key...no way. Cost is about 1/3 of a used rack system with keys.

I updated the link to a lock picking set. This is not what I used in the video, but it will help out in picking more locks than just the Yakima ones.

The thing with most locks is they keep honest people honest. If someone wants something bad enough, they are going to get it.

sometimes the number is on the side of cylinder and sometimes its on the backend. If it's on the back, two characters on each side of the center gap.

You are basically teaching thieves how to steal other people's property. You did not show proof that you from the vehicle you bought. That tells a lot. Have seen bike thieves using various methods including picking the code on the lock, on the garage.
@user-sx4yu3nw4j3 жыл бұрын
You expect him to show the vehicle title document before you’re satisfied? Get over yourself, this isn’t new information to thieves and he’s not the only person sharing lock picking tips on KZbin. FFS there are countless books on the subject and retail websites dedicated to lock picking. Sorry not sorry you’re just now discovering how insecure literally all of your locks are. www.sparrowslockpicks.com/
@snigwithasword12843 жыл бұрын
All security is just a delaying action, a bet that you can inconvenience them into giving up or finding an easier way around. Would love to see this lock given the LPL treatment, looks like a crumby screwdriver could open this!

Locks keep honest people out. I had the bars on my old house ripped off by someone with a tow strap and a truck. If someone wants something bad enough, they'll get it.
