Exactly! No professional locksmith would recommend this video. Whoever made this video, is like a college student comparing a bottle rocket or Roman Candle to a real space rocket. The two are vastly different, and the latter puts the former to shame.

I had an argument with some friends about this very fact. There is literally no way to secure yourself from a determined intruder without turning yourself and your family into prisoners. The best way to be safe is to fly under the radar and appear as if you have nothing of value and invest in good external lighting and an alarm system. The locks are there to keep out the amateurs. A professional will always fond a way in and trust he already knows what's inside, where it is, and what weapons you have. If you have to use guns it's already too late. He knows they are there and if he still comes in he has a plan to kill you if necessary. Buy the best locks you can to keep out the fools but be careful who you welcome in as well.

As a locksmith I'd like to clarify a few things here for those who might have questions. Yes - this can be done, and with some practice it will work. No - it doesn't really make sense to make a lockpick or duplicate a key like this. A paperclip lockpick is rather soft and will probably be worn-out quickly. Same with the key. Better Lockpicking tools can be bought for cheap. The padlock and the other lock shown in this video are both easy to pick. No - these methods cannot be used for all locks. I do think that the homemade lockpick is pretty cool though 😎

Where the hell is the part where it opens all (most\some) locks? Is the key mold thing different from the paper clip thing? This video fucking sucked, worst part about it is the click bait got me. The first method works pretty well but you have to get a feel for it. The one instrument has to go in and out fast enough to make all the pins simultaneously be in the air while you're using the other to turn and unlock the lock. You have to keep holding your turn while you're moving the other piece back and forth real quick. Like I said it takes some practice to get it down but if you start on a simple door lock and just do it several times eventually you'll get the hang of it and could probably even do the lock you were talking about having trouble with.

DIY lock pick kit, I have that clear padlock & it is extremely easy to pick... I've found that hardest common door lock brand to pick is schlage but can still be done pretty easy.. he is making a rake style pick and if you look the video is sped up making it look like he got it right away, it does take time but I like to feel each pin seating on the shear line when I do it.. one pin at a time could be faster than just running the pick in & out a bunch of times hoping you don't knock others down that you've already seated

If I learned from the LockingPickingLawyer is that this is a rake and tension wrench. Also those homemade tools will break after 1 to a couple uses. But cool nonetheless... And they won't open all locks.

My then 11 year old grandson taught himself to pick locks just with the two paper clips. Just straightened them, no filing, nothing. When I said he couldn't he went to their front door and locked it then unlocked it so his mother could get back in. He then progressed to going online and buying a 10 piece lock pick set. Needless to say this has been confiscated by his mother.

Security pins can still be raked opened, they're just harder than standard pins. I can easily rake open pin tumbler locks that have serrated, spools, mushroom pins, or a mixture of all 3.
