A great idea thanks to Johntc8840, is to send the overflow to a composter to get tons of bonemeal. To do this would be something like: point the hopper under the 1st powered rail off to the side. Have another hopper under that hopper pointed into a chest. The top hopper will go into another hopper that goes down into a composter. & the bottom hopper(s) go into a chest(s) The bottom hoppers will claim items 1st. Once their chests fill up, the top hopper will then send all excess to your composter.

Love pumpkin and melon farms. Don’t like those that use rails. To get rid of the rails the blocks around each plant just need to be turned into mud. Then a hopper line under the farm will collect the harvest with 0 loss and no running rail sounds. Yes the increase in iron used is substantially. However never felt the need for a massive pumpkin farm. I typically put in units of 4 plants per section which reduces the cost and because the sections are easily stackable/expandable smaller is a great way to start.
@OmLedu2 ай бұрын
@@edwardphillips8460 Good ideaz! But yeah, just a few plants will def work haha Not that it would matter, but wouldn't there be some loss when pumpkins land on the plant block? Could also just use an allay to not need any hoppers or rails! I'm not a big fan of minecarts since they are laggy, is why i always have a timer for them at least to cut down on some of it

@@OmLedu I have built my design multiple times now and to my knowledge never lost a pumpkin/melon. Remember they’re already setting in the ground (mud in my case) so it’s very unlikely they’ll jump back to the plant. And because the mud block isn’t quite a full block the hopper underneath just sucks them through. I’ve never tried Alays and from what I have seen they may work be a pain to get them in there though.

@@OmLedu Let’s face it pumpkin farms are just emerald machines in disguise. To a greater degree the same with a good iron farm. I trade a ton of iron regularly with all the different “smiths “. For which I not only get experience and emerald but access to all the diamond items I could wish for. I tend to build small outposts throughout my world. When possible I add two villagers. A farmer and a fletcher. The farmer I have grows wheat for me (Love the mud block variations). While providing golden carrots. And the fletcher makes sure I never run out of arrows. (Mending bow for this guy!) Before 121 a pumpkin farm was at each outpost for trading. Since 121 each outpost has gotten an auto bamboo stick farm. Never a shortage of trade able items.

A water source can hydrate a 9x9 area. If you move the pistons up one and replace a sticky piston with a top slab/trapdoor you can remove the dust, move the solid block above the observer.

Hey Bud. I forgot to mention one other thing about using mud in the design. “Water” isn’t required if you use mud! Mud will hydrate the farmable dirt enough to plant the pumpkins. If you wait too long the dirt will revert to normal dirt. But if you hoe it, it will be farmable, just plant your seeds before the change and everything will work just fine.
@OmLedu2 ай бұрын
@@edwardphillips8460 yeah, you can do that with dirt as well, just be quick to plant (pretty sure at least haha) But i thiiiiiink having hydrated farmland makes it grow faster... not that it's necessary to grow faster lolol. And I might be wrong/ crazy either way XD
@edwardphillips84602 ай бұрын
@@OmLedu I won’t swear to it being the same as with water but the planted block sure appears hydrated to me with the mud! If water does lead to faster rates. Time to water log some hoppers in my farm!
@edwardphillips84602 ай бұрын
@@OmLedu okay so you pointing out that it could be done with just dirt, bugged me way to much. So I went to my test world and ran a test. Yes water hydrated is the fastest. Not by that much however. I tested, Mud, dirt, dirt (hydrated), mud (hydrated) In my testing the hydrated dirt was the quickest. Followed by the mud (off by 3 pumpkins), straight up dirt was by far the slowest. The hydrated mud test fell in between mud and dirt which makes no sense to me. So I guess that means hydrate or use mud.

I would've argued against your characterisation of pumpkins/melons being the best source of XP (my guardian farm or the new infesting farm makes this look like child's play) but since they nerfed stacked raid farms and you get emeralds from this, I'm at least open to the argument 😁
@OmLedu2 ай бұрын
Oh yeah the pots. But just no way do they leave that as is. Mojank hates easy xp, yet were dumb enough to add pots that summon enemies?.. I'm surprised they didn't immediately roll that back haha As for guardian farms, yeah they are like the best MOB farm xp source, but switching off your sword to fix your other tools is always an issue for me. Plus even though they are great, villagers get you to level 20 in less than 30 secs :p Even in GR, I used the guardian farm like 1 time. To afk and build up xp to enchant ;) but other than that I still found the villagers to be quicker & easier especially since they already had the pumkin melons build :p So really it's like (to me) fixing gear = villagers. Building up afk xp = DEFINITELY Guardians hahaha & the pots don't count cuz mojank = dumb hahaha
@Acadewolf2 ай бұрын
@@OmLedu you get so many drops from a guardian farm that it doesn't much matter if you don't use a sword. You gave me a great idea - library villager iron farm plus guardian farm. XP will just sit there collecting next to the anvil stack and you pick it up while enchanting. Ideal setup

You use a 1 to 1 ratio between Plants and growable places which is optimal for manual farms. But if you harvest immediately after growth anyways could you not have 4 plants share a single growable space and use the pattern of an optimal sugarcane farm?
@OmLedu2 ай бұрын
@@rumean6503 You could, but the rates would plummet and would cost the same amount of resources. For manual though I do limit the growth to a single tile so that I end up with straight rows, easy to harvest.
