helped me out! I didn't have to pull the cover apart at all on my 2006 Monte Carlo. Just used a long screw driver to push the button in and release the key.

😱I have been dealing with this for a year on and off trying multiple methods using some sort of lubricant in the key slot spraying WD-40 down my shifter smacking my shifter which normally would work but lately it hasn't and by lately I mean 6 months or more gave up on it got a quick release for my battery so my battery wouldn't keep dying bought a portable jump starter for $90 just to get up and running so I wouldn't get stranded even took this little rubber piece off trying to do something someone else had said in a video unfortunately it didn't work I was so close but I don't care thank you so much feel like I hit the lottery today much love goes out to your channel thank you this has saved me hours of unnecessary haggling with my battery

Heck yes worked for me but still going to fix the shifter wire when I get time but for now pushing the little button is way better the popping the hood and disconnecting the battery every time and hooking it back up to leave cause in Iowa last few days been little brisk

Thanks. This release is not the part that fails. It's usually that it does not get sufficient power, from a weak or dying (or even dead) battery. Or it can be that it does not get the proper signal that the vehicle is in park from the shifter mechanism. If they battery tests out good, then I would check the shifter mechanism.

Look at the white round plastic piece right inside and on the back side bottom there is a round nob just push up in the cylinder and turn key! Can be done with screwdriver or knife possibly! Not hard just be patient! If you tilt wheel down the top cover will pop off then just reach finger and push if you can’t get it with a screwdriver ect! Button will push easy!!

Check the shifter assembly. If the battery is good, then it can be a problem detecting that it is actually in Park.

Yep!!! It worked for me too!! Really extremely helpful since we killed the battery a couple times not being able to get the key out, and needed the car since we have 2 other cars that need fixed first right now:/ This will buy time until I can get to the root cause as to why the key won't come out. (I'm guessing bad wire connection in shifter).

Ah, well on some vehicles if you can get the rear seat down you can reach back and pull that glow in the dark manual release lever. I know many have a lock that you need to open the trunk for to let the rear seat fold down, but some don't. Just a thought.

I drilled a 1" diameter hole in the bottom of the cowl, directly under this button. Now I, and my wife, can easily poke our finger up thru the hole, press the button, and release the key.
