It worked! Thank you for this guide, I just used my soldering iron and wire, and regular tape. Thanks to my cat for causing this damage so I learn a new skill lol. over $35 saved

why not using mini heat shrink tubes to the individual wires?

For that, you need to remove the longer outer jacket layer. It also creates a larger repair area on the cable. I have used this technique for almost 10 years, and it gives the best results for me and my clients. However, that doesn't mean there isn't another, better way. The main thing is the result-the repaired headphones-that matters, not how it is done

or just remove volume control and use regular stereo cable.

instead of cutting all the wires the same length, make them half an inch to an inch longer/shorter than each other, and opposite on other end of the cable. This way your splices are offset, further preventing the chance of shorting the splices.

I know this method well; it is often used in cable repairs where the number of wires to be repaired is high. However, the part of the cable without the jacket will be longer, meaning more heat shrink tubing will be needed, and a larger section of the cable will be more fragile when bending. But I will definitely try it in one of my repairs. Thanks.

My headphones are still working , but the rubber casing of the cable is cracked and the wires can be seen (just 2-3 mm). Wires look ok. Can I just do the shrink heat tubing without the cutting/soldiering? Thanks.

you can try, but slowly prepare for a complete repair, which luckily you can do yourself

@@scuba453 mostly only the accessories are different, the soldering iron itself remains the same. You need just Soldering Iron, Flux and solder wire and cleaning sponge for Soldering Iron tip. I hope someday upload a separate video on what you need for soldering.

solder, they are not the kind of wire that will stay twisted (and a cheap soldering iron is a good investment to repair stuff in the future)

The wire connecting to my right head set got cut, I don't even know where the break is. Its possibly inside the head support. I'm gonna have to pull one hell of a patch up to get mine back working :(

i think it's important to mention that the headphone wires are coated with an insulating coating that must be removed before soldering.

Gotta test the connection before you seal up the wires, if its not working you'll need to fix it before you seal it.

It all depends on the price of the headphones relative to the cost of repair. I would prefer to pay $20 or less for the repair of headphones that cost me $150 to buy. Also, you are less likely going to be constantly repairing your headphones, as you will learn to keep them in good working order after the first few times if they had broken.

All of it costs lik,e £26 pounds epxierence in fixing headphones would take me like a week so ima just spend 20 pounds and get them next day delivery cheaper and quicker

bad decision, because the tools and knowledge you get will be there for life, but you will need to buy new headphones every 2 years or more often. Use long term thinking. Good luck.
