Easy repair for an Arcade1Up 1st Generation Trackball

Hi, I have a problem with my trackball, it turn on but the pointer doesn't move, maybe the problem is the emmiter and reader, it can be fixed?, regards

Thanks for the note. If the trackball moves properly but the figure on the screen does not, it is likely the connection between the ball and the machine - particularly if it did work properly at one time. These are just JST plug connectors, and they can work loose from the plug board under the control deck. The easiest way to check it is remove the control deck, then remove the screws that hold on the plastic dust cover. Find the wires that connect the trackball to the plug board and check the connection to make sure they are fully seated. If that is not it, you could check the wires inside the trackball itself, but those are typically hardwired, so I'd be surprised if they were the problem unless one has broken. Sny idea if it's the same as the golden tee xl version?

The XL model uses a different track ball, but the mechanics are very similar. My Golden Tee is the original version, but uses a similar larger trackball than Centipede, and I’ve been able to maintenance it the same way. Good luck with the project.

Any idea if this is the same ball that the Cetepede Legacy cabinet uses? I just bought one new but have to say I find the trackball disappointing, requires way too much movement to respond.

I’ve got the Tempest Legacy cabinet, and while the trackball unit is similar to the one used in the older Centipede cabinet shown here, there are some differences, particularly in the bearings. I’ve looked at buying a replacement LED lit ball for my legacy cabinet, but haven’t done so due to compatibility issues I’ve seen others report on them. Likely there is some calibration involved, but I don’t know enough about it yet. Probably the easiest thing to do is search KZbin for replacement track ball for your specific machine and see what you get. Best wishes on the project.

@@PoppArtstudios thanks for the reply. I've found plenty Cetepede videos where they replace the trackbball, but none with the same cab as mine. I will keep searching and maybe open mine up and see if some carefully applied silicone greese might help.

@@Tetlee did you find a replacement trackball for your Centipede Legacy cabinet? The only one I have found is the GRS Trackball, but I believe it is not compatible with the latest Arcade1Up Centipede cabinet.
