Any reason you just didn't tape the new USB wire to the old one? and skip the coat hanger?

Does it have to be wired? It cannot be battery powered?

You can charge it
@stephanfilm56843 жыл бұрын
Wiring it is really not necessary at all. It will easily last for 6 months or more on a charge. Mine has been installed for four months and still reads fully charged. Then just charge it as needed. The only part of the system that needs to be permanently plugged in is the base station.

@@stephanfilm5684 hi, just confirming… so there’s already a battery on the inside of the keypad unit?

Must the keypad be plugged in 24/7? I was just thinking, what prevents someone from yanking it from the outlet? Is there a battery inside? Thanks

Hi you dont need to connect the the keypad this way. Once you charge it up, will last 9-12 months depending on use.

@@TheMochaangel sure, so the factory default setting is 60 to disarm. To change it to 180 seconds for example, you go into modes, look for Away, you will see you can change the entry delay and exit delay there.

Next time, run that wire on the outlet cover…remove the cover and it will slide through that and all that wire hanging will be hidden. And no big holes on the wall..

@BradGreeff2 жыл бұрын
Those wires are not rated for being behind the wall, you put random holes in your wall with wires going through them and you left the paint colors different.

At this point i am thinking of just patching the holes in my wall and just using command strips

Dude wtf why not just tape it to the same wire your pulling out you crazy af
@stephanfilm56843 жыл бұрын
Perhaps you should buy a drill and make holes with that instead of five minutes of trial and error with an awl. Also you could have used the old wire as a pull for the new wire. No need for all that work with a coat hanger.
@jakeguitar013 жыл бұрын
You're right. I should have used a drill. The old wire could have been a pull wire. However, I was demonstrating the need for a pull wire if you had a new installation going in. For new installations, you would need a pull wire put in place, and the coat hanger is something the average person may have lying around to get the job done. For a more professional installation, fish tape and some more professional tools would have been used.
@presidentcamacho3 жыл бұрын
@@jakeguitar01 I enjoyed the video. I would have used the same "tools" because that is something i do have laying around. Reminds me of MacGyver, use what you got. Besides, a lot of people are not going to spend extra money just for one install.
@@presidentcamacho Just think of all the other things you can install with a new drill though... Drills have electrolytes.

Honestly don’t understand why you need to wire the keypad anyway. It’s internal battery can last six months or more.

This is not a flush mounting iev equipment resist into the wall.... This is surface mounting ie attached to the wall.
@RavenousFallen3 жыл бұрын
I see no real need to do this. You only need to charge the keypad about once a year with power save enabled and having it plugged up just wastes electricity charging it 24/7, similar to charging a cellphone all day and increases risk of it getting damaged in a storm. It's actually bad on the battery to constantly charge it like this long term.
@TheMochaangel3 жыл бұрын
Wait, sooooo are you saying this doesn’t have to be plugged in always??? I’m praying that’s correct because I can simply use command strips.
@RavenousFallen3 жыл бұрын
@@TheMochaangel The keypad is operated on a re-chargable battery that lasts a really long time in power save mode. But even if it's a vacation home you only visit once a year, your Ring app will notify you the battery on keypad is dead if it dies and in that event you just disarm through the mobile app.
@RavenousFallen3 жыл бұрын
@@TheMochaangel I don't know what command strips are but the keypad comes with a mounting plate you screw into the wall. The keypad slides out of the mounting plate whenever you need to charge it. Or you can just sit it on a table. Doesn't matter.
