Easy SawStop Throat Plate Insert You Can Make

I was using a dado stack and instead of replacing the zero clearance throat plate with the dado stat throat plate I ran the dado stack through the wrong one. Thinking I could just keep using it with out issue, welp I was wrong. So with the encouragement of Cow Dog Craft Works, I went to the ol KZbin and found Stumpy Nubs' video on how to make one. So that is what I did and to my surprise it was really not that hard. I made one for my SawStop but this process can be used for any saw, just have to make sure to test fit often.

When i made some for my saw I traced the factory one onto the blank... the way you did that part is fine but takes longer. Also lowered the guides on the bandsaw to keep the blade from wanting to flex. Nice end result though...looks great.

Good tricks with the tape and cutting out the tape in spots you need to transfer

@@JkCanvas If you have a copy machine, put the throat plate on the copy machine an make a copy. You can trim the paper and tape it to your wood piece

Would have liked to see a demo showing it in operation. Blade and riving knife going up and down. What was the overall point? Safety? You mentioned dropping the piece of wood in the slot, but did not adequately explain why that scared you. Another benefit is dust control. I'm guessing with a dust collector going, there would be very little sawdust escaping out the top of the saw. I have this saw and the dust collection is mediocre at best. I think this insert would help that a lot.

I was cutting a small strip of maple for some edge banding and and just as I finished the cut if fell in the gaping hole left by the dado stack. As it fell it hit the bottoms part of the blade and shot it richer back at me. I was not filming that project so I did not catch the events on film. The overall reason is yes safety because small pieces can become missiles in the shop.

Did you forget to draw out the screw holes from the template you made or are they not needed

Antonio Claudio Michael did. It need the adjustment screws because the hot glue acts as the leveler. The insert is a friction fit.
