I've mastered this. It tooks me for 5 month to make it sound like clean as hell. And I already use this technic in my church. THANKS TO YOU !

I practiced this for the past 2 hours after watching this video about 6 times to make sure I got everything you were saying. Really enjoyed the lesson over all, I found myself using this all over the neck in no time; and I have added my ring finger to a third pluck.

Jayme Lewis Dude Complete Respect!! You, not only, are a fantastic bassist, but a fine teacher as well. I have also, over the years, enjoyed the teachings of Stu Hamm. He used similar methods as you and I'm reminded of one in which he likened the use of the paradiddle in alternating the left and right hands in counts of four. Cool stuff to learn..... Thanks, as always, for uploading....

Never thought to go to KZbin and just watch someone break down how to do some of the more tricky bass techniques. I think I just got lucky when I was mainly playing guitar-I learned a bunch from friends. Thank you for the help in making this video! Being mostly self taught, I honestly didn’t know where to start. I do now!

Pro tip: this slap/hammer/slap/pop pattern is sort of the basic skeleton of "Lacquer Head" by Primus, an all-time great bass track (by an all-time great bass player). If you can do this lick from this video, you can play Lacquer Head too.
@ryanbowman3522

Lacquer head is actually not played like that, it’s Slap hammer pluck hammer slap hammer pluck hammer.

There is so much here to unpack! Fantastic decomposition of the full piece into manageable components that are themselves easy to learn. I just wish I had some way to play the slow portions on infinite loop so I could practice each section indefinitely.

I just wanna remind EVERYONE that when Mark King started doing this back in the 80's EVERYONE was saying thats not real bassplaying that just showing off. Then Flea does it and suddenly its SOOOOOO amazing and fantasitc. FUCK YOU ALL, CUNTS!!!!

Whoa slow Down there bud. I never said anything about Mark King inventing the slap bass. But in the video the guy even says something like what Flea does, but the fact of the matter is that fast 16th notes two hand technique was something Mark King introduced back in the 80's but back then, everone said that wasn't bassplaying that was just showing off. Or playing solo all the time. Then Flea comes along and everyone is going nuts and saying it's so amazing. One every single fucking top 10 lists of great bassplayers Flea is there for his "fast funky slap technique". Well for us here in Europe that "fast funky slap technique" was Mark King, not Flea. Now the style that Larry Graham, Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, Louis Johnson etc. are doing is NOT this kinda of bassplaying. Their style is more "groove" like, you don't hear them doing this kinda of slapping, so take your pill, shave your head and go to sleep

absolutely outstanding... seeking to expand smack & pop technique and this worked great for me. I learned the "max efficiency" technique which is R thumb/Lpalm/Rindex/Rmiddle... but can get more of a percussive feel w this as opposed to a banjo roll feel....nice and thanks! One thing tho, at 1:25 you say can also be used as a triplet pattern... just be careful because young or newer students struggle mightily with defining a triplet (have had a hundred students think that e.g. a series of 3 16th notes and a 16th rest was a triplet)... you actually play 4x 16th triplets and 2x16th triplet rests " doo-pah-tee,doo(pah-tee"... if they dont fully understand what a triplet is, this may confuse them as 1. its 4 notes in sequence where triplet implies 3 to someone unaware... and 2. the rest could reinforce a preexisting notion that say, 3 x 16 th notes followed by a rest, constitutes a triplet. dont get me wrong, i love this vid and it taught me something... no complaints. but unfortunately you tube doesnt let you "play to your audience" and any beginner could potentially click and have bad habits reinforced simply because you mention a triplet without explaining... anyways, nice this is way useful to me
@Shanx919
@Shanx919 8 жыл бұрын
Isn't a triplet fitting 3 eight notes in the space of a quarter note? or 3 quarter notes in the space of a half note...?
@bryanallenguitar6714
@bryanallenguitar6714 8 жыл бұрын
yep... probably THE most understood terms among the uneducated. Many folks think ANY grouping of 3 notes are triplets... when the reality is the number of notes has nothing to do with it, it's their place in time that makes them trip-uh-lets
@deadbeatstudios
@deadbeatstudios 8 жыл бұрын
What I played at 1:25 was a fast sixteenth triplet leading up to a quarter note downbeat, essentially the same thing you said, but really just using the triplet as a pickup beat into the next bar or beat. But yes I agree, many beginners struggle with this concept. Thanks for sharing!
@deadbeatstudios
