I can definitely relate to those nostalgic and melancholic feelings in the summertime... I've been feeling that a lot lately too!

There’s another KZbinr I follow on here (Shelbizleee) and she did a summer bucket list this year. I thought that was a fun way to kind of capture the nostalgia of childhood summers where it just felt like you were doing everything fun possible to really take advantage of the break from school. I want to do the same kind of bucket list next year.

I love your videos so much! The cooking, the gardening, the animals, it's so calming 🩷 And the part about the nostalgia is so relatable, I have the very same problem and it's making me very sad too. So you are not alone with this feeling 🩵

I completely understand what you're saying about chasing that summer feeling. I feel like that about snow. As a kid, snow meant the possibility of school closing and spending the day cozied up at home or playing out in the snow with no responsibilities. Now as an adult, a snow day is...just a snow day. I still have to work and now as a mom, it usually means I have to work with a toddler at home.

i chalk up the feelings you described as actually having too good a normal life that there’s not high highs and low lows. as someone who is self employed too with a great gig and life, every day is pretty dang good compared to people who work boring 8-5’s that it’s tough to have that jump we used to have from school (blah) to summer (yay).

No I can totally relate, and I’m almost a decade below you. I did a lot of fun stuff this summer, but being a rising second year vet student, I’ve been working 5.5 jobs. I always hustle, but this is the hardest I ever have because I want to make as much as possible. I love every single job I do, but we start again next week and it blows my mind. Not so relaxing and free lol.

Hi Caitlin, I completely relate to what you’re saying about Summer, being a kid, nostalgia, etc. The moments over Summer are great and I love them when I’m in them, but when it ends the sadness can be kinda intense. Unfortunately, I feel like for me it’s not just in the Summer months, it’s with other seasons as well, specifically Winter and celebrating Christmas. I’ll keep chasing those childhood experiences, but I hope one day I can help foster that feeling in my future kids and maybe then I’ll stop chasing.

I haven’t been on KZbin a lot lately, so I was happy to see a video from you pop up first! 😊 I know exactly what you mean about summer-I used to spend summers in Oregon with my grandparents and cousins swimming, hiking and picking blackberries (that my yaya would make into an amazing cobbler 🤤). I also always brought a backpack filled with books with me to read in their hammock. 🥰 I’m in my 40’s now and those are some of my happiest memories. 🥹 I actually work at a school and I get 2 months off (not 3 anymore like back in the day 😳) for summer and while I know I’m lucky it just doesn’t have the same feeling. 😿 Maybe it’s because the people we spent that time with are no longer with us, places we loved changed or closed or maybe it’s because we still have to adult and always have responsibilities (or worries….TY anxiety! 😕) in the back of our minds…I don’t know, but rose-colored glasses sound great! 😅 I am trying to create new memories for my son and a large chunk of the summer is spent with my parents in North Bend, WA (have you ever been? It’s beautiful! 🤩 Also if you’re into Twin Peaks there’s a lot of cool things to see that were on the show-Twede’s cafe makes a damn fine veggie burger and slice of cherry pie. 🍒 ) There are definitely some things that we do there that remind me of when I was a kid in Oregon-I really hope he looks back on his summers with similar fondness. 🥰 I bought a Gardyn recently because I’ve wanted one for awhile now (from seeing yours on your channel) and I’m so excited for my first harvest! I live in Houston 🥵🦟 , so as much as I love fresh produce and the thought of having an outdoor garden it just isn’t going to happen. 😅I’m also terrible with plants, so I’m hoping with this I’ll finally be able to have a plant stick around for awhile. 🤞🤞 Your stir fry looks delish. I’ve been in a bit of a (summer?) slump and not eating the best and you’ve definitely inspired me to cook something healthy. 💚

Always yummy & simple. How is ur garden? Mine was on the struggle bus this year. Tomato's have blight and too much rain, sweet peas got a fungus and i barely got any, Beans and my new grapes are being chewed up by japanese beetles, Something stripped the lower leaves on my peppers and they have a fungus, my root veggies had too much moisture and split or rotted. Plant a garden they said. It would be fun they said. 😢. Hope urs is growing great!

Lily as a dog's name story: My Hawaii HS geometry teacher was fresh from Arizona. She decided to name her dog a Hawaiian name- the last monarch Liliuokalani. Her Native Hawaiian neighbor heard her calling her dog and was extremely offended. Hence, she shortened her name to Lily, and everything was cool. I still remember this, and this was my freshman year (1981-82).

I think adults need healthy reminders to force themselves to take a break. Rather, it's a big or small vacation, you can figure out something within your comfort zone. I take a take on an international trip every other year. Then, random trips to states I want to go to when I'm not traveling internationally.

Regarding the desire to still be a child and have a carefree and responsibility free summer, I have to say that I have always wanted to be an adult to have more freedom, to be able to do things my way and to live in my own place. I still want to experience a wonderful summer, but working and doing mundane things is part of a normal life, so it doesn´t bring me down, and if I want more free time can take a vacation.

How do you keep your cat from chewing on your indoor garden?
@elisad36092 ай бұрын
I think the main problem is that you think yourself as a not so young woman...the problem with society is that we give a number the power of deciding if we can or cannot do things. After a certain age, let's say 30ish, people think they are old and sometimes useless, while I think age has no meaning at all, it's just a silly number! It's not the age you have in your birthday certificate that matters, but how you feel inside. Getting older is not a curse, it's just a natural process and every year is special and you can do whatever you like even if you have your responsibilities. Enjoying life doesn't mean neglecting your duty. Please be happy!
