Took my old .22 out yesterday and killed my limit of squirrels (10). I love squirrel hunting and the only thing I like better is eating them. I've cooked squirrels about every way possible but I really like them in the slow cooker. Another way is to cook them in the slow cooker, debone them and make a pot pie using cream of mushroom, carrots, celery, and onions. No better eating.

Interesting. I tried squirrel once about 30 years ago. My neighbor cooked it in a pressure cooker. He made a stew similar to yours. I can't say it was my favorite meat, but I always said, if times are bad, I won't go hungry. Squirrel will be on the menu again. 😁

I did not enjoy it about the first 15 times I cooked it. Tried so many ways until I discovered quartering it first, then just boiling it into falling apart. Add that to anything and it taste like dark chicken.

If they are younger I like to fry them. If they are older you can make stewed squirrels with dumplings. Super delicious. I will even make a stew. Depends on what you got to put in it. Get the squirrels fur wet before you skin it to have less hairs in it. This works on rabbit also.

I loved it that you described the flavor of the meat. Who knew that squirrel is a sweeter tasting game meat? This recipe is great. I enjoyed about squirrel recipe video that you made 2, 3 years ago. I remarked on that video that the squirrel was the biggest, juiciest looking one I'd ever seen.

Squirrel is some of the best eating out there! They are less susceptible to disease than rabbits, by a long ways. Fox squirrels have a lot of meat on them, more than the gray squirrels. My mom makes squirrel so good - lightly breaded, seared, and then slow cooked in an old roaster. I do the same thing, but it still doesn't taste as good as when she makes them, lol. Have a great hunting season! Maybe you will enjoy some wild mushrooms with your squirrels! :D
