Stoked for the awesome feedback fellas! I was trying to work out how to film this so that it was easy to follow and in the end found myself sitting on the floor hunched forward with my arms chicken winged out wrapping around the camera haha. Seemed unco at the time but when I watched the footage back it looked pretty great!

Hey Briggsy, I am sure you probably already know this, but if you pin this comment it will be the first thing everyone sees. Great video and good to see some new content on your channel. Can't wait for part 4 of the new MT series it has been awesome.

Cheers mate, yeah I forgot to pin it! Part 4 of Stranded slows down a bit in fish action but is still a cool day. Then part 5 we go freshwater fishing up some stream/waterfall zone and that was really cool, I hope it comes out on camera as good as the day was!

I am super excited to see you guys in some freshwater. Wish we had fishing like that near me. I am going to cast net a bunch of bunker this week to make chum blocks out of and then to make fermented garden fertilizer too. May not get to fish for GT, so I need to make due with huge schools of bunker, large striped bass, and big bluefish runs.

The best and easiest to follow guide to the FG knot (with or without the rizzuto finish). Thank for this video! Still a hard knot to do, especially for lighter lines, but know I actually know what to do.
@RobertTaylor-vd2mw2 ай бұрын
imho the rizzuto is only to bury n cover the tag end , but leader needs to be trimmed just after last half hitch , ( how ever many we do ) cause rizzuto doesnt really add additional strength to knot , BUT , adds protection to braid as it passes thru guides
@joshjameskiwibushman6 жыл бұрын
nailed it, that half hitch in the tail is an interesting addition, cheer

I've watched a handful of FG knot video's and have to say yours is the best with clarity of tying the knot. I've been using the Uni to Uni for over 20 years in the salt with no problems but I'm going to use the FG this year to compare. Keep making instructional video's now and again as we like to see what the other side of the world is doing in the fishing world.

Thanks a ton Briggys for not only showing us how you tie your FG knot but doing it slow enough to follow along. I really wanted to learn how to tie it from you since I've seen the kind of wear and tear you're knots go through and hold up. For bass fishing here in Florida I've always used the blood knot. But now I will most definitely be using the FG knot for all my saltwater applications. Thanks bro.

I am so happy you did this. I used to have trouble with heavier lines and the FG knot. I use 150lb mono to 100lb braid for Conger fishing. I use such heavy mono as I am fishing over rocks and it is basically a rubbing leader. I found the ordinary knot would come undone but with this one I landed 4 Conger to 21lb in one night.

Had the same experience...every now and then just check back in for a refresher course. Posted in May 2018 and currently at over 600k views. Ok 200 views were from me because I just couldn't get it right, but it's still monumental for a video about a knot. Actually, as good as your fishing action videos are, your (albeit, few and far between) tutorials are even better IMHO. Happy to say I can now tie nearly every fishing knot including the world's best FG knot aka Briggsy's FG knot. Thanks a ton Briggsy.

Thanks! I’m used to tying an FG on my 6lb braid rig. Just got a new reel with 50lb braid, you really have to pull it hard to make it stick - max power basically. It was letting go during the cast or unwrapping at the end. Your KZbin and russiuto version fixed it. 🤙🏿
@vinsentpeteh48866 жыл бұрын
Great video Briggsy, one of the best out there. Wanted to ad another small improvment at least it is to me. As I was tying the knot when got to the part where you need to burn the leader to create that cup which prevents the knot to slide off, couldn't get the cup to be smooth so it doesn't cut in the braid under tension. So I took a NAIL FILE and semoothend the leader into a nice round shape. Don't know if anyone else had the same problem but thought it might be useful. The ledaer is 0,52mm thick, maybe that happens only with smaller leaders. Cheers and tight lines :DDDDDDDD
@Briggsy6 жыл бұрын
Good idea mate, I think the brand of leader makes a fair bit of difference to that end shape after burning as well.

Thank you first time fishing in the salt last weekend. Used your fg knot with 65lbs braid to 60lbs mono. Was able to get a 6 foot black tip reef shark to the boat. Pulling it around a marker buoy cable with no problems approx weight was 100lbs and took 150yrds of line on first 2 runs or more. After doing 4 or more rods I noticed that if it kinked a little I just pulled the mono back strait be for I trimmed and finished the knot. Thanks agin Briggsy!
@michaelrosenquist62936 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, probably the best FG knot-demo I've seen so far. I'v watched a lot of your fishing videos, and I've seen the fish you've pulled out from the rocks, so I would feel very confident to try it your way. If it comes undone, it's probably because I didn't do it right. This knot takes time to master. Heading to Rangiroa soon, we'll see what happens. If you've been there...tips are welcome ")

Very interesting, Briggsy. The Salt Strong guys (US blokes who've done a lot of knot contests etc) do two half hitches after the 20 turns before letting off the pressure. Then they pull hard on both mainline and leader to do the discoloured thng. They say not tightening at that point is the number one issue that causes failure with the FG. Then they cut the leader tag, then more half hitches and optional Rizzuto. I've never seen the order of the Rizzuto and the half hitches done your way, and I've never seen the tightening done hard on the Rizzuto. Very neat job, so i'll give it a go! Funny how you, Brooksy and John Cahill all have different methods.

Best video mate. Every time I needed to re-tie my leader I’d watch this video. At first it was taking me the entire length of the video to tie the FG so about 15+ minutes each time. Now after a bunch of practice with this vid I can smash em in a few minutes. Super stoked and thankful. Would also encourage anyone new to the FG to just keep doing it over and over even when you feel like you don’t understand it.. eventually it will make sense. Coming from a uncoordinated goob like me, you got this!

Been looking for a GOOD video on how to tie an FG with a rizzuto finish. By the way what camera is this filmed on the footage looks sick.
@Briggsy6 жыл бұрын
Stoked you liked it mate, the camera's a RX100v5, if you follow the Morningtide films it's the camera I put in the water housing for the slow mo shots on those films and also my main vlogging camera. Another good one that can get similar shots to the RX (but for half the price) is the G7Xm2 which both Cavy and Brooksy use for their vlogs, it just doesn't have the same high frame rate/slowmo stuff.
@TheFishingStyle6 жыл бұрын
Briggsy Yeah cool I thought it was filmed with a DSLR, cool never thought a point and shoot could deliver footage like that.
@steelethetidefishing84956 жыл бұрын
You've recommended this before but didnt think to ask. Do you use the "underwater bundle" water housing or did you find a better or cheaper aftermarket housing? Curious how it affects the view and such. I know the one issue with gopros and the design of the lense housing is it catches water so it's hard to get a clear underwater to above water shot sometimes..
@steelethetidefishing84956 жыл бұрын
Also, would you mind sharing what settings you use for those slow mo shots? I know it goes up to like 900+ fps but sometimes theres downsides as well. Esp if you have to switch at the moment you dont always have the time to do that.
