I’ve never met a string quilt I didn’t like! I’m the lucky caretaker of an actual 1930s string quilt. The fabrics are absolutely enchanting. (And your examples capture that color palette really nicely!)

Thank you for this video. I love making these blocks. With the muslin back it makes for a substantial quilt. Here in Florida I use flannel on the back, no batting. The finished quilts wash really well, hardly any shrinkage.

I think scrap quilts are the loveliest of all, they make a house a home yet their patterns when complete are not simple but are complex and enchanting. I would like another video on making a scrap quilt with sashing between blocks. Your quilts are so very beautiful.

Lovely video. Can you please do a video on how to proceed once all the strips are sewn to the muslin foundation. So many beginner questions… how are the squares sewn to each other? Do you then use a batting layer and a backing layer? How do you binds the quilts etcetc? I am a complete newbie and don’t know anything about quilting but want to learn how to do this.

When you have leftovers of the leftovers, use double-sided fusible web. Iron them on randomly, then iron onto a fabric square. Then you can use them to practice hand or machine quilting. After that you can add a binding and turn it into a hot pad or mug rug.

I have used batting in every string quilt I have made. It does make a bit heavier quilt, but I use Dream Cotton Request to keep it lighter. However, you could layer it without batting if you want. It would be more blanket-like rather than quilty.

I love doing these blocks, I use for small projects such as pillows, bags, notebook covers etc. they also make great potholders. I would like to do a quilt after watching this video. I think I will make a four patch add my batting and backing leaving the backing larger all the way around to be sashing so I can do quilt as you go technique. It is so much easier to quilt on a smaller piece of fabric and then attach the sections. Thank you for sharing.
