Canned chicken, canned beef, or canned ham can also be used for variety. My children loved it with the chicken. It is a little over the top with chicken gravy poured over the casserole serving on the plate. We sometimes made it with rice and other times noodles for a change. As a single father, quick recipes like this were very appreciated.

I used to make this a lot when my kids was little. only I usually used fried rice, either a box mix or my own recipe...or I many times I'd use a box mix mac and cheese with tuna, or canned chicken. My youngest didn't really like tuna that much.

I never have instant rice. But this coukd be mixed up with made ahead or leftover rice then pop in the oven to heat through and get a melt top. 🎉
