I found your chord list in the description, took a screenshot and edited it until the lettering was larger (aging eyeballs) and took a whack at it. got the progression down right away but can’t sing it in that key (too high for my croaky frog voice). but no worries. I have a tenor guitar in “Chicago tuning,” (essentially baritone ukulele tuning.) so I just played the shapes y’all are using and voilá, it’s in G, which my voice gets along nicely with. also I’ve had my tenor guitar for about a decade and haven’t played it in front of an audience. I’ll be fixing that situation in the next couple weeks. thanks!
@AbigailFlowersMusic Жыл бұрын
Fabulous! Yes I often struggle with choosing keys because my voice is higher than most women (and certainly higher than most men hah!), but the switch between baritone (which is actually my main instrument) and concert can be very helpful, as you described. Same with a capo-sometimes you just gotta slap one on and find the key that works lol! I hope to get a tenor guitar one day.
@howlinhobbit Жыл бұрын
my curiosity is pinged. are you going to tune in standard tenor guitar tuning and learn the new shapes? I can see pros and cons with that, which is why I opted to treat mine like an oversized, steel stringed, baritone ukulele. don’t have room in the old brain to stuff a bunch of new chord shapes. 😟
@AbigailFlowersMusic Жыл бұрын
@howlinhobbit oh I would definitely need to tune like baritone! I have a toddler now and my brain also doesn’t have room for anything new 😂 it’ll probably be a few years before I get my hands on one but I’d definitely like to be able to switch seamlessly between guitar and baritone when I do!

@AbigailFlowersMusic3 жыл бұрын
You’re so welcome! The Ab7 is totally a challenge, but I love that you used the word “committing”’! With a little bit of practice every day (or most days), I am confident you can learn that chord and so many others. Don’t get discouraged if it takes longer than you think it should-that’s totally normal! Just take a break, play something that is easy and fun for you, and then come back to your practice the next day.

Hi! Thanks for your video, no barre chords makes it so much easier and your voice is great!! I'm having trouble with the strumming, how do you do it?
@AbigailFlowersMusic4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching! I use my right pointer finger to strum, but some people prefer thumb or a pick! As for the actual rhythm, I always recommend starting really simple! That may mean one strum per beat, or it may mean one strum per chord! Then add a little bit as you get more comfortable, until eventually it feels natural. But that can take a long time to develop, so just keep practicing songs you love!
@AbigailFlowersMusic4 жыл бұрын
Oh also the pattern itself is D DU D DU with a “swing” feel, so it’s bouncy/the DU strums aren’t perfectly evenly divided. If it’s helpful, you can watch the video slowed down by clicking the gear icon and adjusting playback speed!

Thank you so much! So glad you’ve found your way to Uke-ive found it to be therapeutic through all the isolation! As far as strums, I tend to say “play whatever feels natural” as I think that’s what will sound best. But I think what I used in this version was D Du uDu... I have a play along video of this song (the link is in the description I think?) where it may be easier to hear what I’m talking about!

@AbigailFlowersMusic4 жыл бұрын
Ooh great question! I’m so bad at talking about strumming patterns 😅 I always just say, “...whatever feels good to you?!” But I need to get better/more confident with that! I think on this one, I’m just playing D DU D DU pretty consistently, but with swung eighth notes (the bouncy feel, instead of totally even strums on the DU). Hope that’s helpful! Thank you for watching!
