Easy Watercolor Painting Tutorial "Galaxy"

Tools:
Water color paper (sketchbook paper will also do), the one I used here is made by “Hahnemühle”
Brushes: A medium sized round brush and a medium sized brush with tough bristles
Masking Fluid (here: Schmincke blue masking fluid)
Water
Masking tape (optional)
Watercolors. Here I used: Schmincke Horadam “Indigo” (contains pigments PB 15:1 and PB 66) and Schmincke Horadam “Helio turquoise” (contains pigment PB 16)
Seven Step How-To Guide:
Step 1: Use masking tape to frame the part of the paper that you want to paint
Step 2: Use a brush with tough bristles to spatter masking fluid onto the paper. Let it dry for about 10 minutes before continuing.
Step 3: With a fairly wet brush apply heleo turquoise onto parts of the paper (this will become your galaxy). Use a circle motion to create a cloud-like effect
Step 4: Use very saturated indigo color (not too much water) to fill in the rest of the painting. With a little bit of a wetter brush add indigo right up to the part of the paper that holds the helio turquoise. The colors will bleed into each other.
Step 5: While everything is still wet, load your brush with helio turquoise and, starting in the lighter areas of the painting, pull it outward into the indigo color. This will create a very nice effect and bring everything together. Clean your brush, load with more of the turquoise and repeat until you have done this for all parts of the painting where indigo and turquoise meet.
Step 6: Using a dry brush remove a little bit of the turqouise in the center area of “galaxy”. This will make the galaxy look more three dimensional. Let the painting dry for at least 1 hour.
Step 7: Remove the masking fluid by rubbing it away with your fingers (paint must be completely dry or you will rip the paper!!) and then remove the masking tape :)
DONE :) Instead of helio turquoise you can use other colors as well - my suggestions: Try a nice magenta, orange, warm red, green, ochre or cool yellow :)
