My daughter, my first child, was due on Valentines Day. She was one week late. Never been my favorite holiday. 🤣 But she is my favorite girl!

Thanks Emma, I really enjoyed watching your tutorial. I liked seeing and hearing about your experience using a weightier paper than you would usually use. Also, as a complete novice, I really appreciated seeing and hearing exactly how you made changes to your painting as you went along. Your teaching method really made me feel like it is possible for me to paint this. X

Regarding the especially good papers, I find the Bee paper on Amazon perfect for practicing. Then when I’ve gotten my feet wet and feel more confident I pull out the Arches.

Valentines Day was more fun in elementary school. I loved making the boxes and delivering cards to each one in the class. 💞 Another tradition from my generation that has gone by the wayside. Loved the painting and can't wait to try it.

Like you, I enjoy any holiday that can help brighten up a winter's day. FYI - I am one of 7 children and was in my 30s when Mom confessed she did not like St Valentine's Day when we were all attending school. That, and the last day of school, produced an influx of paper in the house that no one wanted to throw out. :)

My mother always made Valentine's day a cute, loving, family holiday with decorations and gifts and cookies so as an adult, it's still one of my favorite holidays.

Emma, I have to say thank you for teaching the way you do. So many artists start out fine, step by step but suddenly you find they are on step but there you are as the student not knowing steps 6-24! I like the fact that you don’t assume prior knowledge. You explain step by step. If someone already knows those steps, fine, it’s just reinforcement for them, but for those who have only some knowledge or are brand new, your style is golden and your explanations are wonderful.

I love this holiday, too. And I also love gnomes. I found the cutest valentine gnomes at Dollar Tree the other day and I have them on my mantel. They're so cheery and cute and fun to look at especially during these cold dreary days of winter.

I'm trying some Valentines Day watercolors today and found this one to be fun to start with. I'm letting my envelope dry right now before I put the hearts on. I'm loving it! I'm just working on some cheap Canson cold press paper and a 36 color dry palette, believe it or not, and I'm loving the result. I'm just in my playing around stage of watercolor, so I don't want to buy something like Arches watercolor paper just to mess up. lol Thanks for the tutorial!

What would be sooo helpful is a smaller circle in the middle of that color wheel that shows what, say, pink mixed with green looked like. I suppose that’s easy to make but I’d buy one already done perfectly 😂😂

@pennywheeler25982 жыл бұрын
I've used that paper and it works better for me when my paint is thicker and darker...I'm not fond of that paper. I paint more pastel muted colors. I like that antique/vintage look. Arches is my favorite and I love boahong when I do a landscape, it can take a lot of water.
@deirdrelewis14542 жыл бұрын
I actually like the uneven effect. It looks aged. But I can see that it might not work for another subject. If it’s quite smooth, it would probably work well with watercolour brush markers .

Hi Emma, the paper is drying fast because it is a heavyweight paper so is much more thirsty than 140lb. You need to treat it differently than 140lb regarding water.
