This was a great video that showed a before and after comparison of an issue and how to correct it. Perfect.

So, So, So, happy i have found you. You have answered so many questions about sharpening shears. I have been a dog groomer for 16 yrs. and have often wondered why my shears would come back crappy. I have just started doing blades from home looking to go full time sharping blades and shears. Shears seems to be more difficult, but I am not about to let that stop me for my vision. I want to bring the best quality of sharpening to my home town here in KY. When and were can i sign up for a class?

Thank you so much! Can I ask why it's important to keep a convex grind on hair scissors? I'm a knife sharpener, and was wondering about hair scissors. As long as the two lines meet in the right position is that all the scissors need?
@BonikaShears Жыл бұрын
Several reasons: 1. Cosmetic. You want shears to look like new , unchanged. 2. convex can often be a stronger edge. 3. My stylist say they can feel a difference, blades move through the hair more smoothly like airflow over an airplane wing. 4. Protect against competition. Another sharpener can sow seeds of discontent showing how you created a bevel on a convex edge. Even if you were happy, now you may have doubts about your regular sharpener. If you can convex and your competition is unable to because of poor equipment or laziness, you have a competitive advantage. 5. That’s the way the factory made them and unless you have a compelling reason to change an edge or angle, it is best to attempt to keep the factory standards.

I just purchased some Fengliren cloth and hair scissors. The hinge nut has a knurled rim which, I assume, requires a special tool for removal without leaving marks. Is this tool proprietary or is it an industry standard? Where can I obtain one? Thank you.

Just turn it with your fingers. No tool needed.

I free-hand convex and get lots of compliments on my jobs. I polish to a high luster and check my work under high magnification along with hair and tp testing. Problem is I never know the angle intended by the manufacturer. Any tips on finding this info?
@BonikaShears2 ай бұрын
@@josephspratt2055 in the factories they typically free-hand…..not all of them. Their workers have muscle memory and are consistent. I am less concerned with the original angle than I am on the use of the scissors and quality of the scissors. Sometimes the manufactures angle is too thin and dulls quickly. Sometimes they add a small blunt bevel over the convex to make the edge last longer. You have to decide based on the shear and the client what customer edge they need. This is why I like a clamp so I can record what angle I used and modify it next time if needed based on consultation with the client. Hope that helps…..but my go to angle when I’m not sure is 45.

All your videos are A+++! Do you have a video that shows how to sharpen semi-convex blades that are painted or anodized? I'm new at this and don't want to harm the finish. I mean, if the process is the same as the beveled blades, I get that, but the edge on the semi-convex seems much thinner and you can't put the metal back so...no rocking? Just straight in and out? Thanks

Great job. How do you knock the burr off?
@BonikaShears2 жыл бұрын
Inside burr or outside burr?
@drmatt3572 жыл бұрын
@@BonikaShears - I think what you would refer to it as the inside burr or the one that touches the other blade as the scissors rubs together. I’ve since watched some of your other videos and you removed the burr by cutting the paper towel. That was on a beveled edge. Same for these convex shears? Thanks again for your time!😁

Why the name of the equipment? The principle of sharpening is shown! And you can use at least a drill, with a plate for sandpaper.
