Freddie from the future ... what a fascinating observation, Hap. Hmmm...time-traveling Freddie. He does have staying power. Great reaction to a once in a many lifetimes performance. Queen forever.

Freddie is from the future, you’re right. And from the past and for eternity. What differs Queen from the other great bands like Pink Floyd, Genesis, LED Zeppelin is that its music, although complex, is popular. Everybody sings it without knowing whether it is classical, rock, jazz, blues or just “Queen Style”

For me, the perfect way to start a day is watching this perfomance and then: Somebody To love (montreal 81'), It's a Hard Life (Rock in Rio 85') and then Save Me (Milton keynes 82'). It is just Perfect. 100% the Best band in the world. So magic and beautiful

I went back to watch this video and now I completely understand what you are saying about Freddie coming back from the future. The words, the song, the piano, his own voice is running thru his veins.

Roger said it best... “I didn’t realize just what we had & how special Freddie was-how he could galvanize audiences by sheer force of will.” This is a great show, a number of excellent performances. He is a joy to watch. (Dragon attack is great, There is a big debate about which performance is better. Here or Montreal.)

I so love the sheer VELOCITY and passion that punctuates every song at Milton (when compared to the beautifully tied bow of Montreal), BUT I can't help notice his speed is accelerated far above the other three band members... eclipsing. You said a similar turn of phrase. As though they took one step back and he took two steps forward. That tells me maybe something else (or someone else) may be lighting him up from the inside that night. But then again, he could have just decided TONIGHT IS FULL THROTTLE boys & girls...I am burning and yearning - CATCH ME IF YOU CAN! Yep, I am going with that one.(:

I love, love live performances so much more even though he usually lowers his key a bit to belt it out,the video has more of the lush harmonies u come to expect from queen and freddie jumping on the drum kit and throwing brians guitar around, and higher notes, but man the energy he puts into this and when he stands to play the piano wow, just cant think why he thought he didnt play well, another great reaction Hap,enjoyed it a lot

I'm probably repeating what I have said before but Milton Keynes is one of my favorite concerts. Raw power and energy from start to finish .Made the Montreal concert look very tame....."I'm gonna make you sing like Aretha Franklin "
It's so great to follow you exploring more of these timeless Queen classics (there are still many more!) Freddie sings so much on the top of his lungs here. Can you imagine, that in the studio version, he sings these same high notes in delicate falsetto? In a way they are quite like two different songs. I love both versions anyway, live and studio. And yes, you are right how tight they are as a live band. Really excellent. But on the other hand, there is Freddie who definitely was from another planet.
This song is a very underrated song by Queen. I think it is Freaking INCREDIBLE. That Piano bridge in the middle is a classically derived stroke of Genius. They had a Brilliant way of using the power of counterpoint to the fullest just as Mozart and Beethoven did with classical music .

I just love how playful and intense Freddie was on stage. It seemed he just let the music take over his body and soul even when he had sang the same song a thousand times over the years. In actuality, Brian seemed to get lost in his guitar playing most times and crank out some epic riffs and solos.

Love this concert. It's so much better than the Montreal concert -- people always request Save Me, Dragon Attack, and Somebody To Love from Montreal, but all three of those (and many others) are so much better from this concert. There's a reason Queen released this concert as "Queen: On Fire-Live At The Bowl." Freddie really was on fire all night (and the rest of the band weren't bad either). ;-) Oh, and yeah, they went into Staying Power after this song, which was a disco-y, funk kind of song.
Some info on the Montreal concert people keep going on about. twistedsifter.com/2019/03/the-best-ever-live-footage-of-queen-montreal-1981-remastered/

Thank you for reacting to my request. I loved the way Freddie was intensely playing that piano. I also loved he was playing nothing recognizable at the beginning then began the notes of the song, which the fans knew immediately what it was. I know you said you wanted to wait to do anything more from 1986 Wembley, but please don’t forget. There are improv’s in that concert that are amazing along with the music. I would suggest splitting it in 4 or 5 parts and doing the entire concert. It is that good. Freddie was out of place- he was years ahead of his time. In one documentary two band mates from another group he was in while in college said that they knew about music, but Freddie knew where music was going!! Freddie made the comment about it only being a bloody record because there were fans holding up signs saying “Disco Sucks” in the audience. There were many fans who were not happy about Hot Space. Their manager even stated in a documentary that according to previous Queen sales, Hot Space was not a success. That was the only Queen album I never purchased. Thank goodness after that they went on with greatness.
Great reaction! Yes, this really is a great and underrated concert! Play The Game is a very Freddie type of song. Other great performances from Milton Keynes includes, Back Chat, Sheer Heart Attack, Under Pressure, Dragon Attack, Bohemian Rhapsody, Staying Power, Save Me, We Will Rock You (Fast). Another great concert which few people ever react to Queen live at the Hammersmtih Odeon 1979, check out Somebody To Love and Now I am Here from that show.

How Freddie ever called himself a bad pianist is beyond me, he is one of my favorites of all time. And the way he was able to play and sing like a drummer, he was on the beat every time he needed to. Idk if this is happening to anyone else, let me know if there's something I should try, plz. Anyways, I absolutely love this song, especially this version because it's packed full of emotions and pure Freddie, if that makes sense. I so enjoy your videos Hap. I check all the time to see when there's another, and it never disappoints! These lyrics are true to the core, and I thoroughly enjoy watching your facial expressions and excitement when you see and hear Freddie /Queen are really jamming! Funny, Freddie never thought he was much of a pianist, but I'd call him one of the greatest of all time! Thanks for sharing this one with us Hap3Speakz!
Some one to Love at this concert is a bit different too. He says" Good God, I needed that," and with the lyric some day I'm gonna be free, he ads " Free I tell you". I think this is also the guy he had the shouting match with just the night before they were to perform on Saturday Night Live in NY, and Freddie worked right up to show time trying to get his voice back. This boyfriend was a real jerk and a bad piece of work.

Anyhoo Happy New Year Hap I hope your year ahead is filled with good health, good times and lots of great music!
You're right that something pissed Freddie off. Before the concert Freddie had a massive argument with his boyfriend Bill Reid. Reid was a bully and an asshole, he bit Freddie's hand so hard that it left teeth marks and bled profusely. Freddie was in agony but refused to go to the hospital. Phoebe (Freddie's assistant) helped him clean the wound and said that Freddie performed so well at the show because anger and pain gave him inspiration.
Omg! Is this the boy friend who use to abuse Freddie!

Hi Hap I’m watching the reaction again now that I’m a new subscriber. You’re the best!! Anyway, a few reactions back you had made a comment how Freddie would hold up his hand with three fingers sometimes during a performance. Do you know that you do the same thing when you pause the video after watching Queen do some-thing unique or fantastic?! You did it after Brian’s guitar solo in “Play the Game” ..... Hahahahaha!! 😂
@snjezanasiklic89344 жыл бұрын
Ha, ha, Freddie really wants to hurt that piano here! It obviously came from the song that he took especially emotional that night..I love how he never sings (live) this part 11:54 in the same way, he always adds a different touch to it. I don't think you reacted to "Tie your Mother down", written by Brian and this quiet, sweet gentlemen goes really wild here (hence "Fat bottomed girls") If you decide to hear it, the lyrics are very important and fast and hard to follow in live versions (though the one from Montreal '81 is fantastic) so I would recommend the album version with lyrics, they are..well, you'll see, I don't want to spoil it..Btw, that Line from the movie, is it "Carlito's way"? :-)
@@HAP3SPEAKZ It was obviously the third which I saw only once (1 and 2 are classics, of course, and I love them) but, I knew it was Pacino! 🙂 Give me some credit for that! 🙂
