I came to the program back in the 80's and I read the stories in the back of the book in treatment and found out where How It Works was located.I had a sponsor, worked the steps from 12&12..I took relapse prevention classes. I finally went to Big Book Study 5 years ago after coming in the rooms for 25 years. So he was a fast learner.

AA meetings are like an orgy, you leave with a big smile but you don't know who to thank.

I Love you Chris and thank you for telling the truth, i was so fortutnate that i was spared buying into the chicken Sh***t one liners. i was taken right to the book and it is true today what she said over 16 years ago. i did it and it worked because i did the work. i heard chris's CDs when i was about 2 or 3 months sober and i was so happy to hear that some people don't let us newbies suffer with a bunch of crap that is not in the AA book, i got to be happy right away and i am so grateful my sponsor heard chris and was taken through the AA book by a lady in Toronto...i do the same.

21:30 never understood why he waited seven years for someone to tell him how to get sober and didn't read the AA big book to find out. Unless he means the big book was not even mentioned as being the basis of the program.

I completely understand what Chris is saying. If it wasn't for my brother who was in the fellowship who gave me good advice and told me to keep going to meetings. Get two home groups, service and a sponsor. That was so hard.! Long story short, I had a few sponsors. One who took me through the steps. She was a lovely lady but never really wanted to hear about my steps 10. Never mentioned 11&12 Only the maintenance steps. Last year After 9 years in untreated Alcoholism, could not get a sponsor I found the primary purpose group after listening to Chris and anothers alike. I now have a sponsor in the US who comes straight from the Big book. 🙏

I get exactly what Chris R is saying. My first meeting was in 1998 and no one told me what it really meant to be an Alcoholic. All I heard was just keep coming back and don't drink and go to a meeting. It took me over 30 yrs to finally understand in the Dr.s Opinion what it means to be a Real Alcoholic. I found a Bigbook Sponsor and started the work and I had a white light experience like Bill W on my 5th step and started making the amends. I am 9 months Sober kicking ass and taking names!!!

I totally understand! I was "sober" 11 years when I relapsed. I never HAD to WORK the steps! Our lives depend on WORKING the program!!!
