Eater of Worlds & Infinite Hunger Boss Guide [PoE 3.17]

Zizaran showcases two of the new pinnacle bosses in Path of Exile: the blue influence Eater of Worlds and the Infinite Hunger.
These two new bosses have a tutorial version the first time you kill them, this is not that version, it's the harder one.
Disclaimer: The build showcased is very weak and done on Standard league, to showcase mechanics and ways you can fail them.

Infinite Hunger felt awful. I went in blind without a ton of damage and got crushed. It's super unintuitive and clunky.

What good would it do for us if you just instakill the boss and we don't see the mechanics? This is the correct way to demonstrate how to kill ANY boss in POE.

Hey Ziz, I think an overview of the boss while you aren't fighting him would be much more helpful. This way you could show the attacks your trying to showcase easier. Just my opinion tho. Keep up the great work!

PLEASE keep doing guides this way, guides with characters built by people with 1000s of hours are terrible and not helpful. using a crap character with poor gear for guides is so much better, showing that it can be done even by casuals and noobs is top.

I actually prefer seeing videos like this with scuffed characters. It's easier to see the mechanics and gives ample time to explain each one while it's happening. It also gives players more confidence with their own character. If a character with worse gear than your own is able to do it, then yours should not have as much of an issue with better gear. It will only be a matter of learning the mechanics first hand.

Man, that’s a scuffed character? Like two or three consecutive ticks of the inescapable doom degen kills me and the other slam/beam nearly one shots me and I’m a lvl 91 EA champion. Pretty sure my gear sucks though

exactly this, I have way worse gear than this but found the fight harder, because I'm just not nearly as good at the game, it's really nice to see it done with terrible gear and be like, oh there is space for me to grow.

@@stewpidaz Did you solve this issue? That's exactly what I'm running into although I'm a squishy deadeye ranger... I can't get touched by the doom aoe for more than about a second or I'm toast. I can't do what he's doing in the video because getting touched at all by that is death, and having to stay still to pop the orbs takes too much time to never get touched.

I think the big thing is to cap spell suppression, not only does it help significantly while mapping, but I think I saw somewhere that this doom counts as a ticking spell hit, which in my experience makes sense because once I got 100% spell suppression on my gear I never have issues with that beam any more...I can just tank it for multiple seconds at a time

This weird phase were you get debuffed, slowed and take dot while you have to find a portal is the worst boss mechanic I have ever encountered in any game. Period.

I'd prefer if you prepared this guide a little better. For example it would be nice to know hat damage types you are dealing with. The mechanic of the drowning sphere, that they move towards you if you are not looking at them and move away if you do. The main damage of the big tentacle slap is when they recede into the ground not when they slam down. A viable strategy to go thorugh the mud in the subboss fight is to first pop quicksilver and run then use all charges of your movement skill to cover the remaining distance. Since armor and evasion are removed, you should make sure to make use of % phys mitigation. In general I feel like a guide should not only show the challenges but also provide information to adjust the suggested solutions to your own build. This felt a lot more like a what not to do, than an actual guide.

I know, a year too late, yet here I am, my first league into maps and I'm getting ready to down this boss for the first time ever (for me, of course, lol!) and I've got to say that I truly do appreciate the tutorial being recorded on a suboptimal build state! My Necro is slightly better, I'd say (personally I had much easier time with the Infinite Hunger than the Black star, hate that boss), but for that reason exactly, I prefer seeing it unfold like this, thank you Zizaran!

Really enjoyed watching scuffed gear fight- much more close to what a lot of us probably try. Great tip just to skip Hunger, I didn't realize the portals could be as hard to reach as you showed here. I died on Eater 1st time because I assumed you had to stand on top of the purple balls and wait for his beam to charge them and didn't realize you had to trigger every one. Nice to see it's even easier and you just run through all of them.

That fight sucks even in softcore. The boss spends a frustratingly long time in an invulnerable phase that you can't do anything about and covers most of the area in a ridiculous degen.

The 'drowning balls' will move away if you face them, which is handy for a totem or minion character.

Infinite hunger's underwater phase is such a awful mechanics. you can anticipate where the portal is by watching a flow of swamp carefully though. I'd try Kaom's root or jugg for him

I enjoyed seeing these, especially as honestly, there is no way you can see how the fights works when you do these the first time. I did the first one tonight where he was one shoting me when coming out of the ground. But I had so much life regen on step 2 that I was regenerating faster than the hits. Also the zombies were taking most of the hits there so even by going the wrong way, I reached out the portal easily, just to die back at the top :)

Seeing top tier builds do well is nothing new, but doing things with scuffed characters is usually better, since it shows what is at least more or less the minimum amount of power you would need to attempt this, which for the average casual bro, is quite nice.

Doing scuffed versions where you have to do and show the mechanics and how to deal with them would be much better for a guide on how to do bosses. For stuff that can be bypassed with more damage, it's more easily explained by mentioning it (as you did in this video) as opposed to just bursting the boss down and not showing the mechanic at all. :)

the debuff zone isnt a bad concept, just need more visual q to know where to go, my RF build survived to zone walking all around at the slowest movement speed stackin over 800 debuff before i find the exit realizing it wasnt on the edge... and at some point there is no monster spawning anymore

FYI, the succumb beam applies a minimum of 30% shock, you should probably pick up the minor pantheon with shock for that.

Here's my confession on the sludge phase: I tried, but I CANNOT for the life of me, see the direction the sludge is moving. to me it almost "jiggles", and I rarely manage to detect the flow direction. I hate this fight, most of it.

Hello, Ziz. I always watch my replays in other games to see on how the enemy is attacking me and on how I attack the enemy. These are exactly how the fights looked on my Poisonous Concoction character. ZDPS makes the fights so long. Clears the atlas fine, but I'm rolling a phys trapper for the bosses now. Very fun boss fights except for the Hunger fight. The poop moat is just no fun, and the debuff not clearing feels like a bug.

Piece of cake on Pohxs RF jugg, the debuff/swallowing phase is just a nuisance although you might wanna avoid tanking his slams once you have a 10+ debuff. Also, even if you dont get hit, RF usually kills the small guys in the swallowed phase before they hit you, the debuff stacks up still. I usually tab the minimap on my screen and movement skill into the portal asap.

First time I fought the Hunger and he pulled me under, I thought it was like a timed wave event that I had to survive through. Needless to say I died at around 80 stacks. Got him down on the 5th portal with around 140 stacks and getting almost oneshot by everything. Good fun. Also, definitely like seeing the scuffed characters. Doesn't have to be THIS scuffed but even at the "bare minimum" you'd normally boss with. It doesn't help us learn anything if you just say "Get 1.5m dps and kill it before it does anything."

I like seeing scuffed or undergeared characters in these videos, especially with new content that I'm trying for the first time. It seems like each league I get lazier and lazier with my league starter. I'm level 91, still using some gear I found in act 9, 2 mana flasks when every one of my spells is using Lifetap, and have a few open gem slots that I can't be bothered to fill. Thanks to this video though I only died once on my first attempt!

Unending Hunger is a terribly designed fight. You have an insanely punishing debuff, that you cannot avoid at all, since it just keeps stacking, even when you don't touch any of the goo. Visuals are extremely unclear, especially in the subzone... The Black Star is so much more enjoyable and understandable, it takes a second to learn it, but then it's easy once you got it.

Infinite Hunger kinda reminds me of eradicator, in the way that the miniboss/leadup is actually harder than the main boss (in this case eater, in eradicators case elder). I have lost like 0 characters to Eater/regular Elder so far but like 1 or 2 to Infinite Hunger and like 3 to Elder (back when he was part of the main story line tho)

Definitely prefering the scuffed fights. I personally struggled a lot with the new bosses on my Poisonous Concoction Pathfinder, since they move around a lot and tend to spam their attacks, so I had very little DPS uptime even for the "tutorial" versions. Even after upgrading my gear, I still feel like Poison Conc is an awful bosser - at least for agile bosses like Black Star, Exarch and Eater of Worlds.

Welp, I don't feel so bad anymore after failing on Eater of Worlds. I wish I had known to swap in Malevolence for Determination though. Using scuffed characters is better, as you can see most likely what you will be facing with your own character.

Eater of Worlds is terrible design because even if you do the under phase "properly" you still get tons of stack and need sustain to be able to go through it. So the "correct" way to do the boss is just to dps andy him

That Infinite Hunger bossfight is just pure bullshit to be fair. I think they should at least show the map including the Portal (so that the map is fully revealed like in Safehouses) otherwise the dragged under stage is a simple logout (or death in SC)

Are you sure being Juggernaut or wearing Kaom's Boots helps in this fight? These things only prevent ACTION speed from being slowed, but i think your MOVEMENT speed is what gets reduced by the debuff. Which would mean you need stampede boots for example.

So ZIz, how does one do this boss on a Manabond Heirophant build, as the constant damage coming in from the "consume" mechanic doesn't allow your energy shield to recharge, making survival impossible!
