I can see why people might think he's a boring presenter. But I actually like the fact that he doesn't try to oversell the taste of the food, or play it up like it's bigger than it really is. He seems very humble and respectful, and I can appreciate that.

This video inspired me to find this place and I was originally intending to go on my birthday but they closed early. I finally went there today and it was absolutely incredible! Service was good, food was unbelievable! I highly recommend all their teas, the soup dumplings, and the pot stickers. This place has been number one on my list of places to eat since I first saw this video and it did not disappoint!

Used to go here all the time in the early 90s when I lived nearby. They made a green curry turnover I've never found at any other dim sum place...so very delicious. Also, if you were alone, you could get a dim sum platter - one each of several favorites plus a side of rice.

It was at Hang An 60 some years ago that a very littledikkins fell in love with chicken feet (and the rest of their menu). Back then it was cart service but otherwise has changed little since the early 1950s.

A dim sum restaurant isn't complete without old ladies pushing trolleys loaded with various steaming bamboo containers filled with lots of different stuff. But I guess you need space for that.

@lkiing
@lkiing 6 жыл бұрын
Actually modern dim sum (since late 90's onward) no longer do push trolleys anymore. Most Hong Kong dim sum places you just order from a order sheet (I did that when I was in Hong Kong a couple of years ago). I live in Vancouver and there are many dim sum restaurants that do it just like that as well since so many Chinese from HK/China have immigrated/moved to Vancouver. It is absolutely the reason you stated, space is a premium. It is a novelty to visit a dim sum restaurant that still does it though. Some will do push trolleys but just for some of their daily specials. I like push trolleys more (especially with the old ladies) but I have moved on...

Not doing a great job of selling those chicken's feet, Lucas! Your grandma was definitely right about this one. You could mention how flavorful they are, lightly sweet and succulent and melty. They are one of my favorites, anyway. Another one of my faves are the steamed flat noodles, usually stuffed with shrimp and that savory sauce? Don't know what it's called, but we always end up getting at least 2 plates of that one.

It could also be the abbreviation of the phrase in Cantonese “a bit of gratuity" (a humble expression, which also means a small but considerate gift). I tend to believe this was orignially a pun containing both the information you provided and mine, combining those 2 and it becomes "something small made with passion from heart"

Another restaurant I have walked by innumerable times, and just never gone in...... For those who go to San Francisco, there are some extremely interesting boutique hotels which ring Chinatown, and even my favorite which is just inside Dragon Gate. Not fancy, but clean and well run, and less expensive - and you get to walk around one of the most interesting parts of the City - and one which literally runs all day and night!

So jealous! All we have are Americanized Chinese buffets (which are good) and then small take out places that all have the same menus. I wish your video would've included much more *specific* reaction and info about what it was like eating those individual items, flavors and textures you were experiencing, etc rather than just giving what seemed very general info about what those items are as if you were reading it from wikipedia pgs 😕. It was really lacking. Other than that, EXCELLENT production quality and loved the fact you interviewed some diners! Very cool.
