Fascinating! Surprised you didn't eat any bugs! That was my second challenge when I hit Thailand. First durian, then bugs, both on camera! I would avoid street food sushi. I remember eating sushi downstairs at Maya Mall at one of the stalls (10 baht a piece)...the minute they opened so I knew it was fresh. Sushi can go bad in a nanosecond. And don't worry about gaining any weight, mate. Everything but the sushi rice was solid low or zero carb, even the sad squirming shrimp!!

Thanks for taking us to the night market in Udon Thani. Some of the stuff I won’t try like the Dancing Shrimp or the raw shrimps with chilly sauce. I like the grill squid though sometimes it’s hard to chew for me. Sean’s kebab looks really good.

I love Udon Thani and UD Town. But I might just be a little biased because my husband is from there 😊We walk over to that night market every time we're in Udon Thani. My husband tries to get me to eat the live shrimp every time we pass by that stand but I still wont do it 😆 If you walk a little farther over by the train station there's the older night market. More food and shopping can be found there as well. My favorite is the bug guy. He has the best fried crickets and the fried fish skin is pretty good too. I'm so glad to see you went back to Udon since your last visit in Isan wasn't the best experience for you. I truly love the people and the spicy food of the Isan region. There are so many hidden gems in that area that are worth the time to explore it more thoroughly. Happy and safe travels to you Paddy

An excellent video Paddy. I love street markets like this, but you are braver than me, Halloween or not. I prefer my meat/fish cooked! In my wife's hometown (Kaiping in Guangdong, China) there is an excellent Street market called Bùxíngjiē (walking street). It is about a mile long and is full of stalls selling clothes, phone accessories, trainers and, of course, street food. Your video brings back good memories.

I've stayed in Udon for three summers. It's an easy, easy place to stay. Loads of apartments for very little money quite near UD town. SP House (just the other side of the Po Sri road) is quite attractive, but renthub shows hundreds of options. And the great thing about Udon is the big parks - Nong Bua right next to UD Town, Nong Sim just a little bit further away, and the huge Nong Prajak just a little bit further away. I think it's for folk with families, or something else to fill the time. I found time weighed heavily on my hands!

For the first time I had "stinky beans" (hard to ship to Canada) mixed with hot cooked ground meat. I actually liked it. As for live jumping shrimps that you sampled ... I will need a few more shots of tequila to go there. Nice episode. dcb

Happy hallows eve-you dressing up? Lol couldn’t eat live anything, and don’t do sushi, but the kebabs looked de-lish! When going thru the first time that neon lit up temple was amazing and beautiful. I do love to try new things, as I’m older now and cast iron stomach has wimped out on me, lol but having been in restaurant industry over 40 years I’ve tried the obscure. Not as long as I live will I like or love caviar and I’ve tried THE MOST EXPENSIVE sought after stuff. And I state fish eggs-UGH/yuck lmao, more for others. Safer travels can’t wait for Laos.🙏🏻❤️

It's crazy for how Thai street sushi has come this far. Around 10 years ago, Thai street sushi likely provided you two features ; poor taste and diarrhea, and only good for those who have never had Japanese food in their life before. But Thai street sushi nowadays is completely the different story from the past. Not only the improvement in their ingredient quality, but the variety and creativity have became insane level as well. For example, the street sushi near my office also has the "Aburi" (burn) option for their salmon sushi, which really similar to what they provide in the decent Japanese restaurant.
