Welcome to the Philippines! It is so cute to see you as a foreigner out of your comfort zone. We Filipinos are so nice and welcoming! Maybe a little too nice in this case because we don’t really eat pancit with our hands 😂 I think they were just being nice and agreeing to whatever you suggested Kamayan (eating with hands) is usually reserved for rice + protein dishes, like fish, shrimp or crispy pork

You mentioned that in China they have an almost similar Halo halo, that is because our foods are basically influenced by the Chinese, Spanish and American. Go for Filipino originals like Sisig, dinuguan etc., ask the locals. Nice to see you in our country, ENJOY !

I've been to Manila once and the food that were Western or Chinese influenced like the shaomai and Jollibee weren't really memorable to me as I was already very familiar with them. What I really, really loved was sisig, bicol, lechon, tapa - those felt very authentically Filipino. Trying balut was also a new experience.

Filipino food is so delicious! I miss my favourite restaurant in Toronto so much! Pork Sisig with rice and a fried egg was my go-to meal and I loved pandan sweets. Halo Halo is something I've only tried a few times when I was pregnant; now I really want some! Congratulations to you both on your engagement! Amy, you and Derk make a lovely couple and I'm so happy for you both. 🥰

As a Filipino, I felt every time they made you eat with your hands makes you more foreign 😅 We barely eat with our hands. Most of the time, we use spoons and forks. Eating with our hands is like a dramatic way to do it, if not, more of like a traditional thing that majority of the population ain't doing anymore. But glad you tried it! Some foods are best eaten that way 👌 That tiny Lemon is called Kalamansi by the way 😁

I don't know why Filipinos always have to show them that they eat using hands. Not true at all. I think less than 50% use hands when eating. Nobody uses hands for noodles. Maybe a few do it, those who would rather buy food than buy spoons. You know what I mean.
@rhophi4157
@rhophi4157 10 ай бұрын
@@TH-rn8hf yeah. This is why I commented, coz in reality Filos really use utensils most of the time. If there be weird or unique to Filos, it is using spoon in replacement of a steak knife, and using fork to push foods towards the spoon. Which Westerners always find unusual 😆😅

I've tried Jollibee for the first time last year and I like it mostly just didn't like their mash potato. It was more of a potato jello then mash potato but overall I would rank it over KFC but under Popeye's. Kyochon 1991 is on the top of my list for fried chicken right now. It's interesting how the selfie stick disappear in the video but not it's shadow. 3:29 Hilarious LoL!!! The shio mai, yup the Chinese immigrated to the Philippines also.

It is something a bit difficult to ask what to take there, becaus they more think about "What would a westerner want to eat" or they want to play it safe, and with a simple bun you cant make anything wrong. What do you eat and asking for the bestseller is also difficult depending on the region, because a lot of people are very frugal, so it will most likely the cheapest, and not the most interesting options. This is of course only true for some, others have realized that westerners are keen about the cuisine and specialities. But it this case it was really sad at the first one because they had a lot of great choices, including a Tortang Talong - an eggplant omelette - but she chose to give you a bun a sausage and an egg, because you are a westerner.. And later, it was a ...silog meal again (silog in the end of the word means with egg and rice). Philippines has really a lot more to offer. But I am happy if you were happy with your choices. Sisig is one of my favorite, it is especially good if you have it in the evening with a beer :)
