I started this lifestyle when I worked part-time and made minimum wage. If I can do it, you can. Chinatown, dumpster diving, bulk buying, focusing on the cheapest fruits as your staples...these are all ways to start. You learn as you go. You don't have to know it all when you begin. Just begin.

This is true. I'm vegan and on food stamps and while I'm not fully raw at this point, I've noticed that my weekly food bill is a lot less and I have more food to eat. My food stamps don't cover everything, but they actually stretch out more than before.) My body also feels better which is great. I get to eat all these tasty foods (like zoodles and raw ice cream) AND I feel better afterward!

Day 5 and down 8.6 Lbs, fully raw. I'm feeling a little tired but great. I'm now sleeping a lot better. I also suffer from have high blood pressure and migraines, but I'm happy to inform you that my doctor reduced my 175mg to 50mg of Cozar (BP medication) today. Your video totally makes sense in how we can save money. I will be researching for a local coop nearby to hopefully save money on organic. My 5-year-old is still sticking by my side and is forcing me to work out. He went fully raw for 4 days, but he is now eating two raw meals a day. Thank you for your love and support. I'm half ways to achieving my goal of 20 LBS lower.

i scour the produce to clear section as its much cheaper that way to eat/drink fully raw. Normally 3 oranges cost $3, 3 lemons cost $1.65, 2 pomegranate cost $4.50. fruits are not cheap and if i buy organic fruits, i can totally forget about going raw. Kristina, i do wish you travel more and see that not everyone is as fortunate as you.

Alisha Dawnelle I made my whole family watch two documentals: food inc and forks over knives. And well, I was vegetarian before, so it wasn't difficult for me at all. But my dad did a pretty impressive job, he used to make barbecues EVERY weekend! Until the day he watched those documentals. That day, he made the decision of not eating any animal product. So he started eating a plant based diet just like that. Abruptly. The first week all my family felt SO well and healthy and happy, that we didn't want to come back to our previous diet at all. No, thanks.

$160 a week for food? Who is she talking/relating to? Some people only spend $50 a week on food. That's why juicing/eating raw is out of reach for people on a tight budget or low income families. It's a set up.

+madreof2 I pay about $65 a week for food and I am partially raw. Its not that much money compared to what I use to spend on meat and other products. I am a college student that is working part-time. If you really care about your health than you can make it happen. Shop around. I go to my farmers market and look at all of the store ads to find the best prices. I don't get all organic produce so that is probably why my shopping bill is lower.

Then for breakfast and lunch eat fruit (fresh and/or frozen) with some oatmeal, yum! It's not fully raw but, you can incorporate some raw meal wile not going broke!

You really are serving a purpose. I'm learning to stop listening to people who are food bullies and try to put my lifestyle down. Usually people who oppose the healthy lifestyle pay way more on medical bills and junk food. You gain so many benefits from this people don't realize the medical bills they can avoid in the future.Oh and it is affordable to buy raw foods if you don't buy all that junk food along with it.

A fully raw diet is not feasible for most of us with extremely tight budgets. When will people admit this? On top of the fact that in many communities, particularly low income communities, access to organic produce, community gardens, farmers markets and food cooperatives are practically nonexistent. Who doesn't want to invest in their health? Let's be real and talk about the need for food justice and access to quality foods in LOW and working class food deserts.

Lady Eros She’s forgetting that she’s single and has money. People who work 9-5 and overtime can’t do this. I’m 95% on a veggie diet and I’ll max spend $45 a week which includes a sufficient amount of beans, lentils, quinoa and veggies that I cook along with fruits and nuts etc it doesn’t have to be so expensive. Also she’s forgetting many people have kids to feed and if you have 2-3 kids + a partner that’s like $600-$700 a week - that’s ludicrous. People need to evaluate things from various angles before they put out content which might drive people to literally become broke....:/

we live in Texas, produce here is cheap. I coupon, we have a military discount. We eat out only once a month, we eat a lot of whole grains. Brown rice isn't expensive, pasta isn't either. I got I think15lbs of oranges for 5$ not too long ago. I plan our meals, all of them, buy only what I will need for that week to avoid any waste, I often buy in bulk too. I make a lot of things my self, like pickles, any preservatives, dough, even granola bars. Makes things much much cheaper, even though it requires some elbow grease. I never buy any candy, chips, frozen unhealthy snacks. ALSO big point, we never drink or buy any sodas or sweetened drinks. Only water and home made juice at our house. And I just look out for better deals, for example I only buy green peppers, because here in TX they are much cheaper than red! It's the little things, and a lot ot planning that saves you a lot of money

Wow, I hadn't considered that the Challenge was for ONE raw meal a day, so if I couldn't find anything cheaper, my single raw meal would average $20 CAD over the 10 days - ouch. And just to reflect on some of the tips presented - * the co-ops available in my city have severely LIMITED selection and are actually MORE expensive (organic) ex. $3.25 per mango vs. $2.29 from grocery * farmers market season here is May to October, and again, *can* be more expensive, even at end-of-day * unless I'm growing indoors, I don't have the option of growing my own food (I can supplement with sprouts/micro-greens however) * the few community gardens are always at capacity, and I have limited transportation as well as health issues so I couldn't volunteer or pick my own fruit at a farm My go-to smoothie is approx. $7.50 for 32oz and 970 cal.; FRK's BANANA CINNAMON COCONUT DATE SMOOTHIE would cost me $10.55 to blend up. Sharing this as clearly circumstances are different for everyone, depending on where they live, their local weather and agriculture, as well as personal challenges. So, maybe instead of the full Shopping List, maybe share how much it would cost to do FRK's BANANA CINNAMON COCONUT DATE SMOOTHIE... Just curious to see how different it may be for everyone.

Is $150 a week a lot for three people and two dogs? Usually our grocery bill is $100 - $120, but it has been going up lately because we've been experimenting with vegan meats. I'm trying to tell my mom that $150 isn't too bad considering it's 9 meals, 2 snacks, so 66 servings of food a week. I meal prep/plan, so that's where I got those numbers. It's a little crazy, I know. Thus, meaning, $2.72 per person for every meal. Is that expensive? I don't think it is, but that's just me, I don't know. HELP!

The average american spends $300 dollars on food a week that can't be right? I certainly hope not.

+pgfracing There are many who do spend $300 or more per week, but I spend about $150 each month on groceries and rarely eat out. A portion of that is saved by food foraging and growing my own food, and I hope to do it more (and save more $$$) in the future. Still, I couldn't afford to make many of these $30+ raw desserts from this lady's recipes, using expensive dried mulbrries, dates, figs, cashews, etc.

+pgfracing me and my boyfriend spend $160-170 dollars on food and that lasts us for 2 week. We do most of our shopping at aldi's which is a super cheap. so about $320-340 dollars a month. it would be less if we didnt buy faux meats but my boyfriend doesnt want to completely give up the taste so i by him the faux meat.

I think I can work around the money part but how do you keep yourself feeling full...Sometimes I just have to have some bread or meat. Did you have a problem getting passed that feeling or anyone else??

I live in a northern climate and when it is winter, I buy my produce at Costco, organic. In the mild weather, spring and summer, I grow veggies and greens in my own garden. I find it very challenging to drink the juices when its zero degrees outside, I crave warm food.

CUT OUT CABLE !!! Lol. We switched to Netflix months ago and have saved soooo much money. That money can go to food. also bananas are your friend when you start out. they are the cheapest fruit I buy.

So incredibly helpful to a college student! Thank you for your positive energy and help trying to make this lifestyle possible for everyone. If you have time you should try doing a video on how to stay raw in the winter for people like me who are buried under 5 feet of snow freezing!
