Stumbled upon you. Bugs are going round right now. It's winter's worstI I hope your little man is feeling better. I have Kiki's book too and have followed her for ages. There's a trick with the rice wrappers. That brand is not good so it's best to have some handy from an Asian shop in the pantry/freezer. In the States their much bigger population means they have a much wider selection of salt, sugar and oil free products, tinned, frozen products and so on. There are many things which are just not available for us. Kiki can often make something much faster because she uses a lot of frozen veges for example. For those "egg rolls" if you can't find better wrappers (those ones are terrible), I would use dried rice wrappers (you know the ones you dunk in water) give them a light spray with avocado oil and air or pan fry them. Kiki often does this light spray for a few things and none of you have weight problems, so all good. The explosions is from overfilling and that improves with experience in making them. High Carb Hannah has a spring roll where she makes a dipping sauce and has them for lunch. Kiki would have used her BBQ sauce and sriracha to add something like a dipping sauce for on top (no sriracha for the kids probably, because Kiki's a hot tomale). My advice if you want sweet chilli sauce, is to make your own using date syrup or apple puree for the sweetener. Freeze half in those big silicone freezer container thingies so you always have some handy. You can get vegan sauces like that in the States, but not here. Have to congratulate you with your kids. They are doing great accepting the vegan way. Have you seen Chelsea Mai Cullen's YT site. She has 2 little girls who are all in with the vegan life in NZ. She tends to concentrate on weight loss but her girls are happy participants. Her husband has MS. The Plant Based Dads do a lot of meal prep, they have a son and follow Dr John McDougall (The Starch Solution) and his wife Mary McDougall. There are so many good people to follow aren't there? I enjoyed your video 👍🏻

@@KendraWilson I tend to like soups and salads but I'm not a fan of American style salad dressings. Kiki likes her ranch dressing, but it's not for me. I tend to make simpler dressings of balsamic, miso and mustard. I always have cooked potatoes in the fridge - I pressure cook 8 or so at a time in an instant pot. Fresh corn cooked in the instant pot makes a good starch based salad with whatever veges are in the fridge (I always have red cabbage, spinach, dinosaur kale, red capsicum, Lebanese cucumbers (used in stir fries too). I like "potato toast" (cut in half, air fried, spread with homemade hummus, avocado and lemon juice). I air fry almost everything! High Carb Hannah has a couple of good books and a fantastic archive but she's not posting a lot at the moment because she and her husband have just moved from Arizona to nornern Argentina. They had too many fans just turning up at their house expecting hospitality. I don't know why they didn't build a greenhouse so it was easier for Hannah to garden. Americans tend to like a lot of sweet breakfasts with chocolate oats which is also not my thing (Healthy Vegan Mama). Am in the middle of moving so am not doing as much as I normally would. Have you checked out Pick Up Limes? They have a new reasonabley priced app but a massive free archive too and another one of my musts is Rainbow Plant Life/Nisha Vora

I love High Carb Hannah too, she is how I found Kiki and Chelsea when they collaborated so many years ago. I love your 'potato toast' idea. Thats a beautifully simple way to eat delicious food. Hi Just found your channel, I am also a fellow Aussie...I use Plantiful Kiki recipes weekly. I prep every Sunday. I do Ranch dressing, Cheese Sauce, Cashew sour cream every week. As it encourages everyone in the house to eat more salad. If they feel snacks I say ....go have some salad & dressing or fruit or left overs. I also make John McDougalls Mac and Cheese recipe I found on Nini Girl V. Its a crowd please and great to take to BBQs as every one want the recipe. I often use the Kiki cheese sauce on a fast night and cook up a tone veggies and pour it over. I also use her sauce and pour it over the big tube pasta from Coles here in Australia for $1 the Rigatoni. I add tin corn heated up in the microwave. After pasta is cooked i add the sauce to the pasta and then the heated up corn...I use the Aldi tin corn because it taste great and is cheaper. sandwiches I believe they will love this. Its been a winner and in my fridge ever since i seen it. I use gherkins ( the three threes brand) and celery finely chopped and added at end. Hope you try some of these recipes. Hope your kids are feeling better. I hate it when my kids are sick. Terri from Australia 🦘 🇦🇺 💜

Hi Terri 🙋‍♀️ so great to have you stop by and leave a lovely comment. Thanks f9r the tips and advice. You're so right, having the dressings and sauces all there ready to go really does encourage you to eat more salads. Not exactly. I've tried to implement some of her designs for meals. I'm afraid I was a fast-food/restaurant eater when I began my WFPB journey, and I had no idea how to structure a meal. Then there was the learning curve... There is a difference between Vegan and WFPB vegan. I began this process after breast cancer. Kiki keeps it simple, and boy, do I need that. I'm new to your channel, but I really liked your content. Sort of "Julie and Julia" of you. I've often thought I should do that at home with my new Kiki cookbook. I watched a recent video from her. She uses her own cookbook constantly. Maybe I could really learn to live this if I created each recipe. I'm sure I'd learn alot.

Oh wow Brenda, thats a huge life change after such a momentous health journey 🥰. How are you now? I really like your Julie and Julia analogy, thats a beautiful way to think of it. And you're so right- there is a huge difference between vegan and WFPB. I really hope the WFPB is not too daunting for you and be kind to yourself in the process, its ok to have some 'easy' foods (aka takeout/restaurant foods) every now and then but the bulk of your diet consist of WFPB foods. Thats the approach I take otherwise I get a little caught up in being too 'strict' and it becomes a mind battle. 😘😘

I have had this book for too long and not cooked anything from it, it's great that your kids have their verdict too, as mine are a major fussy bunch! Again not oil free but Dave's the hassle of making your own, calories aren't too bad, I had five as one serve. Did you make your own plans for the week or follow the one in the book? I really like Kiki but what I found difficult that she is still restricting herself (And her familiy). There is nothing wrong with using for example olive oil in your meals or proper peanut butter instead of the powdered versions. Personally I want to learn to have a healthy relationship with my body and not to restrict myself when eating. That means you can eat healthy but also enjoy desserts, snacks etc which dont always just have to be fruits. I can really recommend watching Linda Sun, who has a way better approach than Kiki. Even though I think she and her famiily are lovely - she does not have a healthy relationship with food.

I understand that Oiliv oil and peanut butter doesn't work for Kiki's body. I really love Kiki too and I have been watching her for years. Personally I quit olive oil for a short while, but it did not work out well for my body, so now I consume it daily AND natural peanut butter. Furthermore, studies relating olive oil consumption to prevent dementia is valid. Our brains need fat! I am 5'5" and 130lbs, so a bit of oil everyday, along with the other fats I consume daily seems to work for me.

So let me preface by saying that I have been following Kiki for years. I myself am pescatarian and do consume olive oil unlike Kiki. I love her and just about all of her recipes and I make them all the time. The only thing I noticed about this short video is the lack of protein. I eat a lot of plant based protein, tofu, tempeh, chic peas, black beans. I also eat wild caught fish for the AHA, as I don't want Alzeimers when I am older! You and your family basically ate carbs and veggies all week. The cheese sauce is potato based. Yes, carbs/potatoes fill you up and its defintely a comfort food, I also eat them everyday, but the body needs protein too. I am 50 years old, 5'5" 130lbs. I went Vegan during March 2020 (covid) but 6 months late added fish back into my diet due to brain fog - I didn't catch covid! We need a min amount of protein everyday, especially women as we age to maintain muscle mass.
