I've been following a whole food plant-based diet for many years now, and I'm approaching the end of menopause. However, I'm often worried about gaining weight when I incorporate more starches, or about my blood sugar levels rising. I kind of remember it happening in the past! Tahini and peanut butter are essentials for me, though I have a chronic esophageal issue that prevents me from using any spices, or garlic and onion. So it's challenging to add flavour to my meals. I rely on tamari, various vinegars, nutritional yeast, and herbs to season my dishes, as even black pepper is off-limits. Consequently, I've developed a fondness for salt and tahini-it's important to enjoy what you eat. Lately, I'm feeling uninspired by my meals. I wish I could lower my fat intake, but nut butter, cacao powder, and avocados are some of the few indulgences that bring me pleasure.

@thatcanadiangrandma I highly recommend you read Dr. Neal Barnard's book, Reversing Diabetes. It addresses everything you described. You dont have to be a diabetic to follow his guidelines, it works for everyone, but especially for pre-diabetes or type 1 or 2. Covers carbohydrates, fats, sugar, and weight loss in detail. Real food! Such a paradigm change for a lot of us. I spent decades eating so much processed food and my health suffered for it. You are right, it takes a while, but your taste preferences change and just a bowl of veggies taste so good to me now.

I just found your channel! I did keto years ago! Now I have 29% clogged arteries! I was eating eggs’ burgers’ pizza for years! Eggs everyday! I went cold turkey gave them all up! I’m basically eating oatmeal with blueberries’ walnuts! Or a big smoothie with whole grain cereal! I’ve been struggling with myself ordering out in restaurants ! Besides salad! Or a vegan burger! We go to our favorite Mexican restaurant! I’ve been getting Vegetable’ rap! I’am so thankful I found your channel! I need all the help!

I’m just lookin into plant based and came across your channel. I’m so glad. I’m only 52 and feeling very unhealthy… overweight-high blood pressure and just diagnosed with AFib. I did plant bases a long time ago and was the healthiest I’d ever been. I don’t know what happened in my life to stop (my guess is depression) but it’s time to get serious. Thank you. Thanks for these suggestions. I’ve been on this path of changing my eating habits! Absolutely need to basically practice farm to table method just adding a few seasonings here and there. Already use nutritional yeast and like the flavor. Trying to stay away from high blood pressure, high sugar issues and over weight and the issues that comes along with that. The older I get the more personal this change has become. Take care and stay healthy!

Unprocessed! Nice video. Watched this video while making 4 large salads (each in a seven cup rectangular Rubbermaid container). I also add a 1/2 cup of beans to each salad. I am also a big fan of California Balsamic and several (Ruby Red Onion, Persian Lime) are tasty enough alone as a dressing.

You are so welcome! You can find your protein in all veggies, potatoes, grains, beans, legumes, nuts, seed, tofu, tempeh, the list goes on and on. Don't worry about getting enough protein on a whole food plant based diet. If you are eating enough calories and are eating a variety of foods you will be fine.

Two days ago it was just lettuce that did it. 🙄 Just finished the inhaler treatment because insurance required it first, now getting approval for the new biologic. Have cleared out the kitchen and making the switch tomorrow morning!

I have a protein smoothie everyday. I love Earth Chimp organic protein powder. It's organic and very clean ingredients. 20 grams a serving plus 1 cup of soy milk gives me around 30 grams of protein. You are so welcome! Actually I only ate half and saved the other half for dinner. I like to do that so I have something all ready for the next meal. Although there are times I would eat the whole thing.
