Wondering what to eat in Poland? Well this video is for you. We found the best Polish dishes. This is our last video in Poland (for this trip), so we decided we had to do a full eating Polish Food video. We decided to concentrate on both Polish Street foods and some traditional Polish dishes!
To start things off we decided to try a sweet treat, called Pączki. Pączki are essentially glazed filled donuts. The one we picked came with lemon zest and fruit filling.
Our second spot on our food tour took us to a nice cosy restaurant where we were able to try a couple of dishes. One was a delicious soup called Zalewajka (the restaurant also had the same name) which was made from sour dough, potatoes, dill and bacon. The other dish we had there was one of the most famous dishes from Poland, Pierogi! Although you can get so many different types and variaties we opted to stick with one of the most traditional which comes filled with potato, cottage cheese and bacon.
On our next stop we took a break from food to try some Polish vodka! We found a cosy little bar that had lots of options, so we tried regular vodka with some lemon juice squeezed in as well as coffee, cherry and rose flavours.
Our last stop on our DIY food tour took us to an outdoor market where we tried a couple of things! One was a traditional Polish sausage called Kielbasa, it was served with bread and mustard. And the very last thing we tried was an open-faced sandwich called zapiekanka. Zapiekanka was traditionally served as a baguette with mushrooms, cheese and ketchup on top but nowadays you can get all sorts of different kids. Our had sausage, mushrooms, cheese, garlic sauce and crispy onions.
ABOUT POLISH FOOD
Polish cuisine is a style of cooking and food preparation originating in or widely popular in Poland. Polish cuisine has evolved over the centuries to become very eclectic due to Poland's history and it shares many similarities with neighbouring Czech and Slovak culinary traditions.

Can you guys please practice how to pronounce the first I in pIerogi. I understand that "diphthong":ie it's not part of the English phoneme system and it would be great if you pronounce the first I separately from the following e. P.S. I see you have an Argentina video here so allow me to suggest: when you go back to Argentina make sure to stop by Klub Polaco(Polish Club) in Buenos Aires and then go the next for lunch at El Mar(Peruvian Ceviche). They are both in the Palermo neighborhood. I do enjoy your videos and you come across as warm people, the video in Zakopane is my favorite so far; it was even better than Kult America's (one of the greatest Polish youtube channels) but PEROGI kinda disrupts the flow.

@@einarabelc5 We're so happy you like our videos. Keep in mind we are dipping in and out of countries quite often so it's easy to get pronunciations wrong here and there (so many languages!). 😳 Most people would know what we mean by saying PERogi (that's our accents happening for the most part FYI). We're close though 😉 right? But you at least still understand what we are trying to say. - Anna

Of all the countries that I visited so far (19), Poland is by far my most favorite. Poland is the very essence of Europe. I have even thought about living there.
@jak582filmweb
@jak582filmweb Жыл бұрын
As a Pole, I will say just say that's it better not to, it's not worth it. While the country is beautiful and the culture is unique, it's still not enough to balance out the current political/economical situation. The majority of the country is extremely poor in comparison to most other European countries, the average hourly wage in our country is about 8 euros pre-tax, meanwhile, in comparison, Germany's minimum wage is 12 euros. Often two people with full-time jobs are just barely enough to pay rent here. It also doesn't help that our government is pretty much a form of populist autocracy - a single party is constantly holding rule by pretty much constantly promising social grants to those who are poor, grants that are taken from constantly increasing taxation, that in effect drives the economy down even more making everyone, even more, poorer, or constantly implementing "special requirements" to "make the elections fair" that often end up preventing the majority of voters from actually taking parts in them, or idk openly violating human rights and EU rights by outlawing access to basic resources like contraception, or by outlawing lgbt rights. Also, people here are often extremely xenophobic, they don't show it to tourists because well, they bring in money, but they are often openly hateful towards most foreigners in everyday life situations.
@aprilmay578
@aprilmay578 Жыл бұрын
@@jak582filmweb It sounds good to me compared to living in the USA. If you think Poland is bad try living here. Fascism and racism are on the rise, xenophobia and bigotry toward women are skyrocketing at a ridiculous pace. There are a great number of extreme far right politicians that are openly trying to destroy democracy. We have a Communist anti-American lunatic, (Trump), that has decimated our economic security, Foreign security, and World standing. I spent 6 months in Poland and I can say that it is Nirvana compared to this country.
@jak582filmweb
@jak582filmweb Жыл бұрын
@@aprilmay578 I am not saying that you don't have it bad too, tbh, in my opinion, choosing between living in America or Poland is like choosing if you want to cut off your arm or your leg - preferably neither. Both countries have an extreme rise in xenophobia and bigotry, and both have seen a violation of human rights to extreme levels(America mostly(but not only) on the racial background like the Police brutality, Poland mostly(but not only) on sex inequality background, like the law that prohibits you from aborting a child as a rape victim), and both are run down by Communist lunatics that are ruling them right now, my point was more akin to "The third choice of going somewhere else nearby that's much better and still visiting from time to time", like how I plan to move to Czech soon, much better living conditions at the cost of having to drive for 2h longer to see my family.

@@aprilmay578 Extremist pff, mate you are talking shit about your own country and that's okay but when I use the exact same terminology to you, exact because I was using a comparative parafrase, to describe the country I lived in for 25 years and that you've seen maybe like twice in your life it makes me an extremist. I know you won't believe me because of course an American knows more about how the life is here than us, but damn at least look at some statistics first. For example look at the democracy index to compare the freedom of voting, you know how bad it is in America then tell me that it's better here even though we are twice as far down the list in comparison, look at average wages and tell me it's not bad even though we are in the top 10 worst in Europe, look at the citizen happiness survey and tell me it's better here even though we are far behind you. Also do you even know what a dychotomy means? Please point out any two informations that I gave that seem as contradictory to you, I will gladly discuss them

Thanks so much for covering Poland positively. I remember when I was a little kid in the States; it didn't even occur to me that you could discriminate against people based on the countries they were from. It was shocking to my lil' naive kid self to be made fun of for being Polish. I feel like it's kind of shamed me ever since. It was pretty bad in the late 70's and early 80's; there were ever-present "Polish jokes" and anti-Polish stereotypes in the U.S. media. It seemed like a concerted, purposeful effort by certain people to make Polish Americans into second rate humans. Now it's no longer bad at all, I would even say that Poles are made fun of less than many other nationalities and ethnic groups. I think that this positive turnaround has to do with two primary things: one, unlike in the past today's Polish immigrants in the U.S. are highly educated and sophisticated (programmers, professionals); two: many people from US backwaters have finally met Poles (for instance people from Texas etc. have served together with Polish Army in various conflicts throughout the world) and realized that they are highly professional, civilized and intelligent people, and have exposed their neighbors to that fact.

I'm Polish American and I grew up eating 80% Polish food.Funny thing is i didnt know it was "Polish food".It was just the way we ate.When i got older i recognized it and got a laught.It explains why an 8yr.old loves pickled herring and with cream&onions. I grew up being proud to be Polish.I never understood why Americans made jokes about Polish being dumb.In college an auther&speaker talked to my English class about his book "Entombed". It was a very emotionally charged experience for me.He gave his explanation to where the Polish stereotype came from.His taken was that Hitler's enormous war "machine" was taking over countries without resistance knowing they'll be slaughtered for attempting to go up against Hitlar.Poland was the only country that fought the Germans,knowing they'll be slaughtered but gave their blood for the LOVE of their country.I don't know if that's factually based but stupid is not what that was.Courageous brevity is more accurate.Knowing my ancestors were so brave and love for other human beings that they hid Jews in their homes from the Germans knowing they'll be killed if discovered.Those acts of compassion and empathy is remarkable.Although there are many humanitarians in the world,ive yet to hear of average citizens risk their life and lives of family and children to save strangers. Millions of Poles were murdered and gassed along with the jews yet it's not as well known.I also think the Germans and Stalin adventagiously perpetuated this ridiculous stereotype of Poles as a way to strip them of their dignity and break them down.Poland was a country to be reckoned with.Germans had a much harder time decimating millions of innocent ppl with Poles hiding&evading at every turn.If there are any folks from Poland on here please offer more information to me and correct me if I'm mistaken please. Btw.When someone makes a Polish joke around me I straighten them out with a History 101 lesson and where the Polish jokes REALLY came from.Today it's extremely rare to hear Polish jokes in America .Chicago has a huge Polish community.There may be some dumb ppl that arent Polish still making those tired jokes but screw them.In the 70s&80s it was the norm.

At holidays, we passed the bowl around and took 3 each time until we couldn't eat any more - my father always won on number eaten. Always put sour cream and butter on top. As one of my grandmother's friends said after a shot of Polish vodka - 'that'll put hair on your chest'. Poonchki (as we pronounced it) is the best dessert ever with a custard filling!

My favourite pierogi are filled with sour cabbage and wild mushrooms of course fried and the other ones are with blueberries and sweet cream. Another dish I recommend are zrazy zawijane which is thin beef rolled and filled with bacon together with either kopytka or pyzy. Of course there is sauce on top of it. Also try kartacze. For dessert a piece of tort orzechowy filled with coffee cream or napoleonka. Oh and don’t curse Poland after seeing results on your scale.

You both definitely need to try Smalec! It’s a lard with several different meats you can have put in - or in my case, the restaurant placed ground sausage in the middle. It’s a a serious side-dish or appetizer that is eaten on a slice of bread or toast. GOOD LUCK! It’s an absolute eye-opener when looking at a bowl of Crisco with meat in the middle...really, it reminded me and looked EXACTLY like that jar under the sink you use for bacon grease.

My family and I love Asian/Mediterranean food, but still love to devour our humble pierogies and preferred ones are ruskie with mint/cottage cheese/potatoes/caramelized onion filling and often with addition of friedbacon dumplings, occasionally in potatoes and flour dough (like Lithuanian Zeppelins) Either freshly boiled or if not fresh then pan fried. With sour cream.. my son loves sushi the most and pierogies as his second favourite dish...he is still in his early teens

Eh?! The problem is that Trevor and Anna have never been to Eastern Europe. When I was in Canada, I explained that I do not know Russian and such things. Canadians explained to me every time that they are not American. I honestly thought I was in the USA. Only Quebec was very different than stereotypical America.Eastern Europe is only Russia, Ukraine and Belarus (sometimes Moldova is also included) . These three countries cover exactly half of the continent. You will see the difference in religion, alphabet, time zone, lack of oligarchs and dictators, etc. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJqViJx3r5aAirM Greetings from Central Europe.

Whatever you do is don't call Poland eastern Europe. Geographically Poland is located in Central Europe, but people say eastern because it used to be part of the Eastern bloc. But like I said always call Poland Central Europe or you will offend the Polish people, they can't stand being called Eastern Europe. It's funny Finland is North East of Poland but people consider Finland as part of western Europe, but Poland that's west of Finland is called Eastern Europe.
