When I first came to live in Turkey in 2003, at the end of my street was a man who had an old clapped out van and on Friday and Saturday night would have an old gas stove and a plastic picnic table and would cook kokoreç. Me and my wife would buy once a week and chat to him, a really nice man who sold it to pay for his children's education. His little kokerec enterprise grew and grew.. He now owns a 150 seater kokerec restaurant which is packed (pre-pandemic). He's still a lovely man and I'm so so happy for him.

Hi Chris & Marianne, Adam Rees here. It's been a little while since I wrote a comment however I still watch your channel religiously. Last year was a wash out however your videos got me through. I've honestly had so much joy from continuing to watch you for the last 3 years I think. I'm going to become a patron next week when I get paid to support your channel as you're probably my most watched channel on KZbin so I would love to contribute. I would also love a t shirt so I'll look into ordering one of those aswell. I've been thinking for the last 2 years about started my own channel. I now currently live in Scotland and would love to travel around vloging like you guys so perhaps in the future we could talk about that and you can point me in the right direction. Keep up the great work and I'll look forward to seeing you again one day. Much love from Scotland, Adam Rees *Edit* I have been to içmeler 4 times which is just down the road from marmaris, and I would absolutely love for you two to visit and get your opinion. It would an amazing sight to see Trudy in a resort I've travelled to many times by plane. It's absolutely beautiful

I don't like the texture as well even if i ate Kokoreç dozens of times therefore while ordering i always say ''İyice kızart'' which means ''Grill it well'' so it all becomes crunchy and both it's taste and experience becomes so much better!! I would definitely recommend ordering it again but this time asking them to grill it well as it is whole another world!! But for a bizarre reason most Kokoreç restaurants aren't doing it if you don't specifically ask for. Also this is sheep intestine which were 3-12 months old so even their intestine is quite safe to eat, in fact it is far safer than pork :))
@MalteseKat4 жыл бұрын
Please explain how intestine from a 3-12 month old sheep is safer? I just want to know.
@ggoddkkiller13424 жыл бұрын
@@MalteseKat How dangerous meat is depends on animal's diet and age such as carnivorous animals like wolves for example would have extremely high amount of parasites and bacteria in their meat which is why we don't eat carnivorous animals. While a 3-12 months old sheep is both very young and their diet is much cleaner, for example some sheeps would be raised by only their mother's milk which is called milk lamb and it is even more safer. Traditionally only milk lamb is used for Kokoreç but ofc i can guarantee every Kokoreç restaurant will follow this tradition but they are between 3-12 months old for sure and it is still far safer meat than pork. Because pigs are omnivore animals which would eat pretty much everything including even rotten things and waste while a sheep would only eat vegetation. Most people think in Turkey we don't eat pork because we are Muslims but it isn't completely correct as we weren't eating pork before becoming Muslims neither as we were Nomadic people and traditionally kept raising only sheep and goat.

I have never been brave enough to try kokoreç. Well done, Chris. But it comes highly recommended, I know. I was just wondering if you’ve ever had Manolya puding (one d) when you arrived at the pink van - spooky. I love the strawberry version. The weather was great for December, eh? Short sleeves! Datça is brilliant, everywhere so Instagrammable! I can’t wait for the next episode. Although my holiday home is in Fethiye, I fear you may feel that Fethiye is a let-down after Bodrum and Datça. Only by comparison because Fethiye is fantastic in its own right. I’m in the UK until after the pandemic, so sadly cannot meet up with you. Keep smiling and filming!

I had the same issue when I tried black pudding here in the UK for the first time. Eating a "blood sausage" feels so wrong and I wasn't sure about the taste at first. I love it now, a square sausage + black pudding in a buttered roll with some brown sauce. Yummy. I'm sure you'd be the same if you had kokorec available to you all the time. It's not something you'd enjoy the first time, in my opinion.

We enjoyed the Datca ferry especially as we saw a lot of flying fish. By the way, Kemal Reis was a famous Ottoman admiral, the town of Turgutreis on the Bodrum peninsula is named after him. We have known about Kokorec since we first went to Turkey, we call it "intestines on a stick" as we didn't know the Turkish word but we have never tried it, one day! Another dish I haven't tried is kelle paca corbasi (brain soup) or iskembe (tripe soup). Our favourite soup is Ezo gelin, we eat it for lunch or dinner most days but I haven't noticed you try any soup, Chris would enjoy ezo gelin as it is spicy and mercimek is the not as spicy version.

We had this in Istanbul, as it was the cheapest street food we could find, actually it tasted pretty good. I think it's just our western mindset that puts us off. Be brave, though I have to say, I visited Georgia years ago with my parents (about 40 years ago!) and I had the bread with the cheese and egg that you had and I hated it! Haha...
