The "separate checks" analogy for health care would be if nobody bought health insurance and just payed their own medical expenses. Just today one of my good friends recommended a $1200 standing desk to me. I explained my price range was more like $200. I've hardly ever been to expensive restaurants. I can afford to, but the food doesn't taste good enough/isn't healthy enough to warrant the huge increase in price. I can utilize/budget my money better elsewhere. Everybody worries about money, because that's like your lifeline.
