We must have just missed you. We parked for two nights, including Christmas, at the new aquatic center at the south end of the malecón. The Sectur Campeche folks told us it was fine for overnight parking. As it was Christmas the center was closed, but ordinarily it would have been open and the best part is it's FREE! Free showers, too.

San Francisco de Campeche, or Campeche as it's known locally, is a city in one of the safest states in Mexico and also one of the country's most scenic. The city is one of the most charming and least-visited gems on the Gulf of Mexico; a wonderful alternative to tourist hotspots like Merida and Cancun.

@@EatSeeTV thank you for your message, I was wondering as I have USA plates and have heard about travelers having a bit of trouble being stopped by police for no reason, bribes etc. Yes I miss my van now! @briantravelmanАй бұрын
Yeah, I stayed in Merida and it was the same thing, lots of crumbling buildings and I also thought the old town was gonna be a lot larger then it actually was and we were senselessly just walking circles around the plaza to kill time. One of my regrets was not being able to make it to Campeche, but hearing you say that made me realize that I didn't miss much, and I no longer want to go. So you won't working for the tourism board any time soon😂 I might get roasted for saying this, but after exploring a bit of Mexico, I see that Mexican cities aren't worth visiting. Maybe only Mexico City and Taxco. The rest, once you've seen one Mexican city, you've seen them all. If I ever go back to Mexico, I will only go for the ruins and nature.
@EatSeeTVАй бұрын
This is a horrible comment on so many levels. 😔 Mexico is extremely diverse and each city does have something different to offer. Different regional foods, people, customs, buildings and histories. Yes, some areas can feel the same and some places have less to see as a tourist than others but it does not make it not worth visiting. Sounds like you need to shift your outlook and be more open to the experiences of travel. Would you say there's no point going to different places in Spain because the towns look alike? Or the Midwest or northeast? Mexico is a wonderful country and one of our favorite places in the world!
@briantravelmanАй бұрын
Having spent some time in Europe, including Spain, I actually WOULD say that. Can't speak for the NE as I haven't really explored it. I've seen a bit of the midwest, and I would only go back for the nature. I think my outlook is just fine. I've been traveling for a long time and came to the realization that a lot of places are very similar to each other. When your travel map is small EVERYTHING seems interesting, but now there are places that seemed interesting when I was younger, that no longer do. I'm not fortunate enough to have the time and money to drive around in an RV for 6 months out of the year, so I'd rather focus my time and money on things I haven't seen. Different people like different things. Also for example, I recently visited the Yucatan and I finally understood why my uncle didn't wanna go to Belize after seeing the Yucatan. For the record, it's one of my favorite as well. I love food and culture too, but I love other stuff more. But you don't need to necessarily go to a city to experience that stuff. I was expecting to get roasted, but that was a bit harsh.😂 It's just a matter of tastes and interests.
