I was allowed access to a church rummage sale the day before it opened while they were setting up. I paid all asking prices. I found out after, that my purchases totaled over 25% of the total sales they had from 3 days of sales. 1 buyer compared to how many over the 3days.

Kevin, the first thing you say when you are making an offer is “ I will not get mad if you do not accept my offer”. You are never pushy, demanding or rude. I have been watching you for quite some time and NEVER miss a video of yours. You give to charities, Churches and causes. You are a kind, thoughtful and decent human. You look for deals for your business. We appreciate all you do for reselling and general knowledge of what to look for and what to pass on. You do not in anyway resemble the “ vulture” . I think the person writing that article used up their adjectives and verb collection! Have a blessed week. Love from your biggest Canuck Fan🇨🇦

I don’t like all of Kevin‘s minions either one in particular, I am really trying to find something good about this person, but it’s very hard and I actually can’t stand them lol but I think Kevin is pretty genuine. I mean look at the things he does for and with his family. Bottom line it is a business. I don’t think Kevin is overly aggressive if I had a yard sale and anyone came along that was rude. I overheard a lady at a rummage sale say they hate resellers coming to their sales. Who do they think buys a huge amount of their inventory?
@adyscript
@adyscript 2 ай бұрын
Exactly. It’s the same in some fb groups. If they get a whiff that you’re a reseller, you’re out. Resellers are the ones that know how to get your stuff into the hands of someone who wants it, and will frequently (not always) give you a fair price or pay your asking price if it makes sense.

I show up at 6:45 thinking i dont want to be rude and show up to early, so i get there and half the stuff already gone! Turns out some people showed at 6am which is rude in my opinion, and even worse he said couple people showed up friday knocking on his door asking if they can look and buy! Coordinated our annual neighborhood garage sale this past Saturday. I am a reseller and I use this to get rid of stale inventory and to encourage community. Our sale started at 7:30. We had the aggressive buyers waiting at 6am. They ducked under our caution tape, blocked the road picked stuff out of other peoples piles and all kinds of crappy behaviour. But, I sold them a lot of stuff at a bargain price and then we could relax and enjoy the rest of the sale. In the end, we hauled a truck load of unsold treasures to the closest thrift store and my eBay shed feels so much better. I felt a bit ambushed by their behavior but I got rid of stuff.

In the late 80’s my friend and I bought furniture and housing decor to furnish our first homes. We went to a wealthy area of Orange County where the residents were continually renovating and or redesigning their homes. The incredible deals we got! Of course, that was before the internet and reselling online. It was amazing how these wealthy people were so willing to get rid of items that were still selling for hundreds in the retail stores. Those were the days.

Years ago, I had some folks pull up to my yard sale. Mind you, I *was* trying to get rid of things, but I also told them, 'C'mon, I'm also trying to make a *little* bit of money as well and not to be ripped off because I understood the value of things we had." They offered a set price, we agreed. Basically, they ripped us off, however, not completely. I told them the set price which we all agreed on. But, they wanted to pay $100 then and then the rest when they could. I gave them a set deadline. And so much per week to pay or I'll get rid of the stuff myself. They paid $100 for the stuff they got that day. Never called me back. I didn't mind because they didn't get everything they wanted. Years later, we ran into one of them at the store and they apologized for not coming and getting the rest of the stuff.

Kevin, I enjoyed your video so much! It was hilarious, listening to what that guy wrote - vultures, leaping gates, invading, equipment! ROFL! I had so many laughs that I really needed for a change! I am proud to be an invader. I take equipment (loupe, cellphone, and IKEA bag). I do not take books. That would be ridiculous! I am polite and do not try to talk people down on their prices unless they have something marked more than I can afford to pay. I do not arrive more than 5-10 minutes early and I ask if it is o.k. to come in early if they look ready for business. I do not pace. I do not jump gates (I could not do this if I tried!). I agree with everything you said. If the seller and buyer are happy with a price, there is nothing bad about the deal. They could always look up the going rates for things before their sales if they want, just like we do.

On the other hand… to the writer of the “vulture” article… ask him what he would suggest resellers do to suffice his conflict with resellers??? What would make him happy? What? Does he want us to go to the sale and see a good deal and try to pay more for it so we make less? It’s a competition, just like everything else in the world! I mean his complete grievances are on how he despises “ garage sale vultures”… easy fix…DON’T GO! Either he got burned by selling things way too cheap at his own garage sale, and then saw the amazing prices some things are worth on a later show ( he could have looked the items up himself, as we all do….or he is just a very unhappy person! I once offered to buy a young lady's, who worked with me, collage books she no longer needed and she said no before I could even give her a price because I was just going to "make bank" with them. I liked the young girl and even tried to tell her how she could sell them herself.... A few years later she asked me if i still wanted them and by this time the were outdated and of no value so I had to kindly refuse.....To this day I assume they are just paper weights in a closet somewhere so we both got nothing.....Her loss

In reality most unsold items end up in the landfill. Garage sale sellers are trying to make a few bucks n clear out some space. I think they are happy to sell to anyone that has cash in hand . They set the price and they decide if a discount is given etc. I dont see where the problem is.

There are good and bad apples everywhere. Some garage sellers string their web, hoping to catch and rip buyers off. They know their designer handbags, video games, and jewelry are fake, or an item shown on the box is not the same item inside the box, or something has been broken but repaired and won't disclose this information.

Made a line when someone else got there, the lady said I could come in early, but when I got in there, most everything I had saw in the pictures that I wanted was gone. You might be a vulture if....you're me, according to the article writer.(LOL) I tend to get there early; as a jewelry "girl" if you don't get there early you get nothing. (If there's anything to get, which these days there usually isn't.) I'll make a bulk buy if there's one to be had..good luck these days although it's happened. There's a loupe in my purse, but I usually just pull my glasses down and read marks. Most regulars here are collectors or resellers, and we buy a LOT. Do we want gold for costume prices..doesn't everybody if they're honest about it? If you don't want to sell gold as costume, check things first! The regulars ask politely and do NOT bang on doors or enter unbidden; there's a limit. On the other hand: There's a lady (or female) here whose real name I don't know and honestly am just as glad. She's perpetually rude to anyone she thinks is a competitor, which is everyone, and rude to the sellers too. She's always looking for valuables, and chews people down from prices that were already cheap. Not happy when she can't. She's only happy if she thinks she's getting one up on YOU and I've yet to meet another regular in this area who has a kind word to say about her or the guy she lives with. Zero. Me either, and that takes real work. There are others out there looking for a good deal, but there's a limit. She goes over the local one with great regularity. I like turkey vultures; they clean up things we don't want to touch. Her? Vultures don't want to be associated with her.

I have had numerous opportunities to pick up ink cartridges and have not bought them because of that scenario. Even if they return them, there is no way to test them to be sure it wasn't just buyer's remorse.

I think when we are knowledgable about any topic, we can often lose sight of what the layman knows about it. You're tending here to think that everyone is thinking as a reseller would (i.e. from a position of knowledge that the items are worth a lot more, but it's more convenient to sell at a garage sale OR that they simply don't care how much they're worth and just want rid). That isn't the case, and I think where people do end up feeling uncomfortable is when it is clear that someone, through no fault of their own (perhaps an elderly person who has no internet access) doesn't know what their items are worth, and wouldn't sell them so cheaply if they did know the value. That, to me, is where things start getting uncomfortable. I can see in those cases why people feel resellers 'take advantage' of people.

Vultures "ripping off sellers": any item is only 'worth' what can be achieved in the circumstances. If a seller wants to get eBay prices they are free to go ahead and list it there. Since listing is now free (for private sales in the UK) the barriers are low to entry. If sellers want the convenience (and lack of fees) of a garage sale (or car boot sale here) then they have to either accept a lower price or still be sitting on their goods at the end of the day. Resellers address a national or international audience, pay platform fees, accept the risks and costs of shipping and take responsibility for any errors or flaws. We trade on reputation; however flawed the eBay feedback system, it still gives some reassurance to buyers. By contrast, how many yard sale venders are going to refund that VCR 30 days later that "was working when last used" when it actually does nothing other than chew tapes?

Also so many more of the yard sales are storage building buyer, pallet buy yard sales, and a lot less of the actual family yard sales. Just saying

If I wanted to pay full or near value price I could sit at home and purchase it online. I wouldn’t be spending tons of time or using all the gas driving around to find things.

People have to be bored or super jealous to pick on folks making some money. Both parties are making money. I’ve said it before, if a seller under sells an item it is on the seller not the buyer with a good eye.

Billionaires don't go to garage sales. The author of the article is ignorant. "Vulture" is offensive. Resellers are just trying to pay their rent and buy groceries.

It gets tiring people always complaining about resellers. I worked at a grocery store during thanksgiving and we ran out of mince meat pies. My boss gave me money and had me ho to walmart and buy 30 mince meat pies for resell. My hubby is retired but works at a grocery store now. Some lady comes in and buys ALL of the shrimp when its on sale. For resell. Whats the difference? Theres all kinds of reselling going on. We arent vultures. 😂

Its the gloating, constantly whipping out phones to google image stuff and try to lowball and ask for lower pricing on already low prices (KNOWING WHAT YOU WILL GET OVERALL). Im a reseller myself and i see it all the time when i go to garage sales (i live in the same area as you). Overall most people are easy going but social media has killed trust because (no offense to youtubers) a lot of yall use your platforms as a means to feel entitled to stuff because you have a camera. On the flip side, reselling is a lot of work and if you are hosting a yard sale you need to expect people to flip your items. If you are worried someone will make more than you, you are already setting yourself up for failure.

Is this where we pretend sellers at garage and estate sales are sad victims because they don't own smart phones and can't sell online themselves? They aren't. They don't want to do that. They just want to offload, make a little cash and not fill another landfill. Those sellers don't need armchair social media heroes screwing up their quick money gig. And, don't get me started on the huge revenue thrifts make on resellers who, in turn, provide a service by selling people the unique and/or less expensive items they're looking for online. There's no crying in business, so quit your whining.

Hi Kevin. Love your videos but... I define a garage sale vulture as anyone who offers a seller 10 percent or less of the expected resale price. I sometimes see you doing that. Rather than giving to Charity, it might be better to just give more to the seller. Why rob Peter to pay Paul?

That Article is very one sided. How about the yard sale sellers that dont price items, and read you and up prices because you look interested. Us resellers need to have good poker faces to not get taken advantage also. So yard sale sellers also can take advantage us pickers!

That author has a false romanticized notion of garage sales. Maybe that's the way they perceived them when they were younger and that's how the sales hardened in their memory, but sales have never been some wholesome nearby neighbor thing. I started garage saling with my mom in the 80's. We got out the classified section of the paper and a map and we laid out a path throughout the whole county. We were buying as collectors and as people looking to save big money on needed things.

Question. I have a multiple quantities of a relatively rare item. I have been listing 1 at a time. How many days should I wait between posting the next one after a sale? Or it really doesn't matter.

What a ridiculous argument, if they set the price and you pay that price it's 100& fair even if you barter and they agree on a lower price it's still fair. They are talking like resellers back up their cars load it up and take off without paying lol. Also resellers do a ton of research to know the profits margins which is public knowledge that anyone can learn, if they're too lazy to research their products then that's on them. Nobody told they have to sell at garage sales either, if they want full price for items then sell online like resellers and wait for the item to sell, but the whole point of a garage sale is to move everything in one day which is only happening if prices are super low... I bet the only people whining are people who had garage sales then saw someone local selling the same item on market place for twice as much lol but most garage sale sellers just want their stuff gone and could care less.

Sold 392 units vs 387 from last year so flat in comparison of this years growth for my store. But my ASP is much higher this year. $17653 vs $15677 last year. Continuing to buy a ton of inventory to help offset my tax liability.

Whoever wrote this message, you should be ashamed of yourself. You have no idea what you’re talking about and your stereotyping a whole group of people on one experience you may have had or may have just seen on KZbin. I can’t tell you how many families have thanked me for the amount of money I spent at their garage sale because they needed it for costs related to a family member that passed away and the money was crucial for that family and that’s just one example but this is why election went the way it did is this type of thinking?
