Welcome back. A lot of people have this issue where the buyer's package is stuck at customs and then they try to open a return case or item not received case against the seller. Who is responsible?
It is the buyer's responsibility to retrieve their packages from customs or to provide ID, information, documentation, to release it from customs. If there are any fees, vat, import, duties, taxes, the buyer is responsible. If the product is restricted from entering the country, the buyer is responsible.
Be careful of scams out there who try to get their money back and then after they will release the package from customs and get it for FREE!
In my experience, ebay closed the case in my favor because I was in the right. The buyer ended up releasing the package from customs few days later anyways and got the package delivered! What a sneaky attempt whether it was a scammer or just an honest mistake.
Feel free to message in the comments if you have any questions!

Hiya! I’m from the USA in California. I was wanting to buy a ring from Japan that is around $110-150 but the seller offer free shipping. Can you help me better understand the import/Customs taxes and where I can find the info for this? Any help is appreciated!

Hi, what about the Chinese products shipped from the third countries - are they still charged 25% duty tax?
@breakaway2x
@breakaway2x 2 жыл бұрын
It depends on your country customs laws. No matter where it is coming from, once it enters your country, if your country tax/duties is 25% it will be 25%. The only thing that might change it is 1) the value of the imported goods (up to a certain value, your country may not impose any duties/vat taxes) or 2) the nature of the imported goods (some types of goods don't charge the vat/duties or it may be lesser %).

What in a case if buyer is not able to pay for custom charges and item is returned from customs to seller is buyer allowed to get refund ?
@breakaway2x
@breakaway2x Жыл бұрын
Buyer's a responsible for paying any customs fees. Therefore, if they were unable to and it was returned to you, you can charge them whatever you want as the return shipping fee, then deduct it off the refund you give them. Also, if you had in your listing a no-return policy for international orders that will help you more if it was opened case. If you didn't have a no-return policy stated in your listing, then there is a chance the buyer could get all their refund if they opened up a case but most likely you'll still win as long as you can prove the buyer was unable to pay for customs fees and returned it to you and how much the return charges cost.

Hello, I bought something from EBay that’s overseas and I didn’t know, I bought something that from Japan and I’m from the USA nyc. The item that I bought coast $89.66. When my item arrives to my house do I need to pay again like the custom duty?

It may depend on what you ordered and what shipping carrier is being used. Express/expedited shipping via DHL or UPS may have a duty / brokerage fee.

@@kriswithak1455 nope, I didn’t have to pay for custom. I have looked online and apparently, “you only pay for duty if the item valued over $800 USD”. But I believe it also depends on the vendor too. 🤷🏻‍♀️ (definitely recommend searching it up the custom duty information for your country)

Hi. I'm from the US and I wanna buy a hat that's coming from Russia. I assume I would have to pay import taxes on the item. I'm so confused on that because I never bought anything outside of my country via Ebay.
@breakaway2x

It depends on your country customs and what category the item is under. Some items value may be below the threshold for import tax so you won't have to pay. I would check with your country customs directly just to make sure!

hi thanks for asking! Customs is determined by your country's import laws. Depending on what exactly you are importing to your country, certain items may have required import VAT tax to pay for, especially if it is higher priced. You can always double check by first contacting your customs agency and asking them if there are any charges/fees. Good luck!

1)✅When the package is confiscated by US customs, can the buyer file a case on eBay? 2)✅ When a package is held by customs, is the owner of the package contacted? Thanks 👍
@breakaway2x
@breakaway2x Жыл бұрын
1) you can open a case, but Ebay technically says the buyer is responsible for any packages held at buyer's country customs. 2) Usually they are contacted if a phone number or email was given to the shipper. But sometimes they don't contact you for whatever reason. I found that as a seller, I always had to contact my buyer that the customs is contacting me to contact them about their package.

I think it's a bit simplistic to call this buyer a scammer. I'm struggling as well to get a package cleared that is being held by customs in the Philippines for no obvious reason, since the total value is only 5500 PHP, much lower than the 10000PHP that is allowed free of import taxes . You don't get help from the courier cause they say they only react if the seller is contacting them and Customs isn't telling you also what is the exact problem. They just keep sending the same question list. Now i got tired of waiting and filed an official complaint at the office of the Ombudsman. So what I mean don't just underestimate the efforts the buyer has made to have his package released and the corruption in some Asian countries by government workers. It is the obligation of the courier however to make sure that your package is delivered within a reasonable period, that's why you pay him a substantial amount in the first place. If they can't get the job done they should not be in this business and if the buyer in the end gets the package and a refund then that is because your courier did a lousy job. So blame your courier not your customer. But thanks for the video now i know i better not buy on ebay from sellers like you who just leave the buyer with the shit. Apparently ebay protection doesn't mean that much either, better buy in a physical store. I bought my package on Discogs and got fully refunded by the seller - without any discussion, in fact the seller proposed it herself rather than have me starting a Paypal claim - and if i eventually should be able to get the package released i fully reserved the refund cause i was the only one trying to get the package released and sent almost 100 emails for it. The only thing I agree with you is that the buyer should know what products are forbidden, but then again, your courier should too.

If your buying a Japanese book for 40 US dollars than how much would I be paying in import costs/taxes
@breakaway2x

it will all depend on which country you are importing it from. Each buyer needs to contact their own customs agency and find out what the import fees are for X item. Information can also be found online on your country customs websites.

Please may I ask, if I'm importing something small like a smartphone will customs charge me a crazy amount of money (over R500) and after I pay will they then deliver the order to my door or I'll have to drive 400km to the customs office to pick up my order?
@breakaway2x
@breakaway2x 2 жыл бұрын
Depending on your country and customs laws, most of the time after you pay customs/import fees, they will continue to deliver it to your residence. In some countries, however, yes, you do have to go pick it up but that's pretty rare case unless you live in a very remote area in the world. I've had that happened once to a shipment that went to I believe Belarus or Ukraine and the recipient would have to travel a few hundred km to get it but they also had the option to pay more money to a broker (3rd party) who could deliver it to them directly.

@@breakaway2x Thanks for the info! Please may I the customs fee crazy expensive? Like is it 50% + of the value of the parcel?
@breakaway2x
@breakaway2x 2 жыл бұрын
@@venator7889 Hmm, it shouldn't be 50% but probably around 15% if you are in South Africa? If there is another charge, it could be something called "brokerage fee" which is a broker that will release the package at customs for you and then deliver it to your address. Sometimes I have seen brokerage fees cost 30% or more of the total value of goods. It's not unusual that if something cost $150 and there was a brokerage fee of $50 to have it released from customs. The best thing to do is try to contact your local customs office and ask them where the fee is coming from and why it's so high.

Hi, if there are any taxes owed on the purchase, you'll pay it on ebay but when it comes to Canada's customs, you may have to pay additional fees. The shipping carrier that the seller uses ie. DHL or Fedex in Canada etc will contact you to make a payment to clear it with instructions on where you can make the payment.

India customs ask a bribe of 21% of the declared value of your shipping, even if you have already pre-paid ALL the taxes and duty fees of the destination country because your seller shipped via EIS (Ebay International Shipping) that include those fees. Shame!!!

yes there's lots of headaches now when it comes to international shipping and vat....some countries seem to have it much worse than others. It can be quite expensive to ship and import something into your country if there's a lot of vat / tax on it and or brokerage fees from the shipping carrier.
