Smaller cut outs would be my vote. Ideally needs some sort of trim/edge to make it look like it's meant to be there rather than just a random cut out. Something billet or made from extrusions welded & dressed back which could also hold some very open mesh would look great. Very cool concept.

I think the holes are to big for those turbos and the turbos need to be closer to those holes. But I’d go with no visible turbos. Otherwise good work

Very cool! I will be watching with great interest. I too am in the early stages of a similar project using a '68 vw T3 squareback. I am using a 2.2 EJ22 with twin T03/T04e Chinese turbos. I will do a crossbar rear support and slip jointed pipes. The bar will mount to an alternator fabrication. The turbos will be able to swing. I intend to soft mount the ends of the bar to the bumper mounts using sway bar end bushings. All the air cooling ducting is going away. It will be a wide body. The rear panel is to be a 'glass surround and removable to service the air filters. How do you intend to scavenge the turbo drain oil? I plan to use a collector and an electric pump. Twin air/liquid intercoolers, 935 style plenums and twin throttle bodies. Also water/meth injection. Tanks in the back seat area. This will ditch the swing axle rear in favor of a 5 link F1 style suspension. A Megasqirt 3 will power the package. Twin a arm ft. Suspension is in the works. Keep it up!

Now I'm REALLY keen to know where the intercooling and the engine cooling figures. Those turbos are BEASTS Mike! Having Mike Brewer on should've dragged in another 20 or 30 views at least :) just proves the algorithm doesn't always work, ha ha..... Engine mounts should be fun. and the wiring harness. Haltech for the win baby! (My pizza joint is in the climbing mecca of Siurana in Spain. Started measuring up for the oven today, BTW) Your Bette Midler impersonation is a solid 4/10. An 8 for effort though. Cheers!

A back-in-the-day solution was to have a shot of nitrous to provide oomph to get the engine to spool the turbos faster - nowadays smaller, high efficiency turbos and ecm reduce lag. Great content - keep plugging and the KZbin algo’s will catch up!

Mike, I just discovered your channel & LOVE the content!! I just subscribed w/ bell notifications & I’m hooked watching your early to present videos several times. Really humbling & surreal to see other people across the country get similar dreams of killer cool projects. I have been plotting & planning a “budget” build for years of a heavily modded twin turbo air-cooled motor mated to Porsche 6-speed transaxle build w/ the only American rear engine air-cooled production car.😎 Like you, my idea of cool was heavily influenced by the 934/935 w/ a twist, “what if GM had gone racing FIA & IMSA to compete head-to-head w/ Porsche?” How cool would those race cars have been?! Love your execution of the build. Please keep it up! Your work is inspiring new live into my build & really like your breakdown of plan of attack & adjustments needed.

Love your build and how you’re doing it. I like how you come up with simple solutions to engineering challenges that crop up. Also your cut outs to see the turbos is a great idea, however in my opinion those cutouts look better in your drawing than they do on the panel you modified and I think the reason for that is in the drawing the openings appear to be narrower which I find more ascetically pleasing to the eye. Hi from the UK subscribed and liked the channel like asked, but just a quick tip! If could put a dark film or even point your camera lens on phone if using smartphone, through some sunglasses when welding, so we don't get flashback from the welder, that would be good. Make the portholes much narrower (even narrower than your vision rendering) and not so tall. it should be suttle and not a barn door. You have to consider the angle from which it will be viewed, to get the best effect. - Would plexiglass covers be an idea? Michael is this going to be a street car? With that turbo set up I'm wondering where on earth you could put mufflers... those turbo exit pipes look so good coming straight out to the center like that- but can't imagine that being street legal. Also- shouldn't one turbo be a mirror image of the other turbo so the header path is similar from side to side? The passenger side looks kind of like you'll have to put some serious bends in there to end up getting to the turbo flange... just questions along the way- LOVE the build and process- and filming! I'll share to Tmblr too-
