Yes! Please don't feel the need to always one-up yourself and constantly go bigger and crazier. Down that road may lie glory, but also burnout and ruin.

I liked the original model better. If it was me, I would have cleaned that one up and just painted it as is. That massive hammer was nice.

People sometimes seem to forget that hobbies are meant to be enjoyable. These videos are really lovely for reinforcing that we should have fun. :) Great conversion and painted model too. Love the grim dark stormcast.

would be cool if you made one or got one that looked exactly looked like how this one looked originally but made it for the other group instead cause that would be cool to see

So I thought to myself “Why is he swapping out the head for a different, similar head. Waste of time.” Then it got to the priming montage and we got to see the head you chose and it went from ‘meh but fits fine’ to ‘badass’ and I understood completely. NOICE. 😊

So cool, very nice chill video. I often like these types of videos because it gives a reminder that this hobby is as fun as you want it to be, not everything has to be an army painting or massive project. Sometimes all it is, is a mini that looks cool and a relaxing painting session. Great video Casey :)

I have run into this exact same thing with some models I have bought for a game- I recently moved and don't have any players around anymore, and was questioning "why should I even paint these" but then realized painting is part of the enjoyment and is often the reason itself!

im at that exact point right now, so this suggestion to break it up came at the right time: for me it was switching to zombicide and just blasting through some zombos without any care whatsoever and without necessarily wanting to finish the box or any goal, just bloodying up some zombs and not painting carefully is what i need right now (been doing many "i should finish my army" sort of things and that was too much)

Awesome job with the conversion. I’d say one thing you could have done, was cut off one of the spikes on the mace so it was sitting on top of the head. I’ve never judged a golden demon models but I’d say that would be one of things they might mark against you as having the mace semi floating and not right on top of the orks head like the hammer was. Keep up the great work!

I’m painting the very last model in a gift army for a friend to get him into 40K (Sisters Exorcist) and…this model is a STRUGGLE. It’s taken me as long as all the rest of the models in the army and I’m way overdue as is. I appreciate this video. I think I’m going to find something fun in my collection that deserves paint and just relax for a change of pace.

I'm gradually getting back into the hobby after years and am finding it hard to push through painting. I largely put it down to how detailed new minis are compared to 2nd/3rd edition stuff. Perhaps I need to pick up the vintage boltthrower I have and build it, just for fun. Thanks for the video Casey!

Excellent work as always! I really liked the chill, as-it-comes way this video went. The style worked well and I'm glad it was easier for you. The end result was both professional and informative - in ways other videos often neglect (e.g., problem solving). I also liked what you said about burnout and the need to sometimes shift gears and do something for the fun of it. It's something I've found quite helpful of late. In my case: the last two weeks, I wanted to exploit winter vacation to get a lot of painting done. I was going to sit down and blast it out before the inevitable report carts/end-of-semester January rush. But I just... found myself unhappy, uninspired, and not wanting to do it. So I pushed back all the projects I'd planned, took a few days to do literally anything else, and when I came back, I turned to a project that hadn't been on my radar: a Heavy Intercessors I'd be given a few days earlier. Even if I'd owned it beforehand, it would have been so far back in my pipeline, I probably wouldn't have touched it until summer. But it's a box I've long wanted to do, so I grabbed it, opened it, and started building. While I did, I decided to experiment with some oyumaru I'd picked up for another project, tried casting stuff for the first time, and incorporated the results. Honestly, I didn't do much beyond those five models and a massive backlog of spare pouches- but I had fun! And as of the last few days, I've found the desire to actually paint again. So remember, people: there's no shame in putting a project aside if the passion isn't there! It'll come back - eventually. A day, a week, a year... Doesn't matter. Only having fun does!

Noticed a couple different shots (like setting up lights and table) and zooms (slow zoom to where you ended up standing) so it made sense when you said you were trying something new - well done - that slow zoom gave me a little unease - a, “what am I supposed to be looking at?” feeling - could be useful in a Halloweeny context - always happy to see you’ve posted

I'm juggling two large projects (both are big kits) right now. One of them involves trying to replicate something resembling the cover of "Giger's Alien" and the other involves me trying my hand at NMM steel again (yikes), so I've already got something small built and ready for priming to take a break from these two projects. Because the bigger projects are pushing my skills and having something smaller on hand to take a break from those is a great idea. Also, I like the name "Grim Bald", it needs to be a Thing, I think!

Since i stopped playing the tabletop games that require full armies, and stick to smaller solo player rpg style tabletop games, plus getting into 3d printing, has really fought the burnout. No longer am i trying to assembly line full units. Now i just grab something off my shelf or print something new that looks interesting in that moment. Also realizing that boardgame models dont need heavy metal style paintjobs. The models wont be as crisp as gw hard plastics, but a simple contrast and done paint job makes the game look so much better than just player models were cast in one color plastic and enemies were cast in a different color.

It's always good to take a break from a project - especially a large one (like working on my Flesh Tearers), so I started this year off with an idea I'd had for a while, and that was to build and paint a Primaris version of Sgt Telion from the Ultramarines. I'm currently sat here, edge highlighting blue armour, while watching your video 😅
