I forgot to mention in the video that the controller has a 7 day auto start program as well it can control more than one heater, like a hydronic one for instants!

In the late 1970's, I installed an Ebersbacher Diesel heater in a Deutz Intrac tractor. I had the Deutz Intrac set up with a 7 ft 2-stage snow blower. The Ebersbacher heater was about the same size as yours and kept the inside of the cab warm enough for me to operate without a jacket in a short sleeve shirt. It was an amazing setup!

I have a question. I just spoke to Espar about this particular heater for my 2003 ford E450 and he told me that the OD of the pick up tube that goes into the gas tank is larger then 6mm so is not recommended to connect to. That could be the reason they didn't include a connection for the top of the fuel pump. They suggested I connect it in line to the actual line that goes to the engine. So wanted to get your take on what you have done, how the heater has been running now that you have had it a year and what you think about doing the connection in the way Espar has said how to install. Thanks so much for the great video!

I’ve had zero issues with it. I wouldn’t connect to the engine supply line.

I don't know if they ever upgraded their heaters but several years ago when I approached the factory reps for Espar, Webasto, Wallas, etc. They don't tell you up front but their heaters are only for light duty use. Almost all were around 600 hrs for total life. That is not many weekends! I was looking for a 24/7 heater to keep the boat warm through the winter and wet months. Toyo was the only one who made such a forced air heater but they have since discontinued distribution in the US (might still be available in Canada or overseas). Put one in my boat and was nothing but impressed. I had tried a Wallas and it was nothing but expensive complicated expensive junk. Espar and Webasto told me that only their hydronic units were rated for my kind of use. But they were bulky, complicated and drew too much power to run to be practical on a small boat. So check the rated lifespan. Now the Chinese have several models that look similar, have longer lives and run on a variety of fuels (something that was a pain with a diesel heater in a gas boat) for a tenth or less the cost. I haven't tried them but several on YT have and seem to have good results. Espar was big at that time in heating semi truck tractors for winter use but still suffered from a short lifespan. The price range for the top three then was about 2500 dollars give or take. The Toyo was $2k so $200-250 that the Chinese are selling them for is quite attractive even if the lifespan is no longer!! All of them need to be opened up and burned hot on a regular basis to keep them clear of soot. Idling them for prolonged periods will eventually clog them up and require disassembly and cleaning. Heat is a good thing especially with insulation come winter whether you are hunting on a boat in an out of the way place or stuck beside the road in a blizzard.

To my knowledge this heater has a 10 year lifespan assuming regular normal usage. I think that is based on thermal fatigue. It needs maintenance of course but you mentioned a big factor is burning it hot on occasion to keep it clean. Also it's gas not diesel so it should be less prone to soot build up. This is actually the correct size heater for my van and I don't really need it until the weather is below freezing. It's pretty much the only gas/petrol/benzin option available. The big factor for me was the controller not to mention a quality company that's been making these units for a long time. All of the low cost options are copies of this and Webasto. This is also the latest model so the module does altitude adjustment automatically, most of this style heater don't do that or it complicated to make it do that. The controller also has a 7 day auto start program and can control multiple Espar units like an additional hydronic one for hot water and engine circulation. Much like the coolant circulation pumps everyone uses in Alaska just gas/diesel operated instead of electric. I used this type of heater extensively in Alaska, 24V 30,000BTU units so I'm comfortable with it. We would roll the window down at -40F to keep the heater on max! Like a vent window! Do you use a calorifier?

This is instructive installation if you have a machine shop in your garage (and those skills). Can I pay you to install one in my gasoline sprinter?

Hey I saw you sent your vise to CaLem, very cool of you. I have some 30 taper tooling that I can't use (my machine is 40 taper) that I would like to send your way. I think I remember that your Rockwell is a 30? How can I go about this?

Hi - we're installing this today - so if you see this today and can reply it would be helpful. We ordered the same heater but don't see the fitting that goes into the fuel tank shown in your video at 3:50. Did it come with your kit or did you order it? TIA

Please do not sleep in the vehicle while this device is in operation. Gasoline combustion products can cause oxygen starvation and it can be fatal while you sleep. I live in Siberia and temperatures below zero are common for us. We have diesel versions of such heaters installed on travel cars - diesel combustion vapors are not so dangerous in a sleep. I would also recommend putting a CO2 analyzer in your car - it can warn you of a dangerous concentration of CO2 in the air and can potentially save lives.

I plan to put a carbon monoxide detector in the van during the build out, thanks for your comment/concern.
