Ebonites Steel Orch early 1960's . Making a Record was a Major Achievement for the SteelBand crowned with all the Pride and Recognition that came with it . Also It caused the Music to go Worldwide .

These were the pioneers.of steelband,.its roots and where it is today. It has forged ahead and still.developing.(the sound,the ringing of the notes,they are getting clearer.an.distinct.

Oh Yeah, Born in Morvant, My brother and I started playing with them as kids, they were the neighborhood band. In those days Desperadoes was a badlohn band. I knew all the players. They eventually all went to the Morvant Junction and formed Harmonites with Knolly Bobb and Lincoln Hunte and a few other fellas. Merlyn Joseph "the Captain at the time" tried to keep things going but all the good player went with Solo Harmonites. they were truly a trailblazer group. They best in Trinidad at the time. Wallace was the tuner, he's still tuning. that's where he started. If you lived in Morvant all you heard was Wallace tuning pans all day. This is truly a historical posting in the steel drum business. This music is still good enen though it's been over fifty years. Wallace made those pans men. IMPRESSIVE. I used to play the seven base they had. My brother still plays the double tenors I play the altos "double seconds". well he plays alto pan now. Regardless of what pan you played in Trinidad, when you leave home you eventually switch to altos, like Robert Greenidge " the Pan master". Great post. Kudos. Keep it up.

Is there anywhere a recording of Ebonites playing Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring? The band played that Jour O'uvert morning in 1961 or 1962. That year, before sun up, at Strand corner or Sam's Garage, Ebonites (Jesu Joy...), Silver Stars (can't recall their tune) and Panam North Stars (playing Valencia) met...that was the year Heaven visited Trinidad. Haven't heard that tune played since.

The Winston I know is Winston Albert ...and Clyde was Clyde Murray......Or Cyde Simmons....We listened to Mr Conan and his Hawaii guitars.....Then at the end of the week Ebonites practice sessions,,,,....

I left Trinidad 1957 and as a young girl from Morvant every Christmas ebonites will be on the road until the police come and then everybody runs I am a selkridge
