Let's try to connect this RS485 to WiFi adapter for the Epever Solar Station Monitor program on the PC.
This is a small serial port server that plugs into the RS485 comm port on the EPSolar charge controllers and provides the serial data via a WiFi (or BluetTooth with the BLE version) connection:
www.epsolarpv.com/en/index.php...
Thanks to Adam Welch, who made a video on hacking this converter:
• Hacked EPEver Wifi to ...
I found a source for these converters on AliExpress:
www.aliexpress.com/item/EPEVE...
The Android app is available here:

A copy of the setup diagram is available below:

And for newer devices, from the comment by @Gabriel Alonso Paniagua Castro:
For all of you who have been like me, trying to setup the new version of this device to STA, it's possible, even with some security! Connect to the device, go to Mode Setting, right click on the button and edit the drop-down to pass in value "STA" instead of "AP" and it will be accepted..
Use Chrome browser
Right-click on the Mode button
Choose "Inspect element", change from
[option value="AP"]
to
[option value="STA"]
and then hit the button (note the KZbin doesn't allow angle brackets in the video description, so I used [ and ] instead of angle brackets).
Then create an additional WiFi network on your router (or use an additional AP), for SSID use: LSD and for password use: 12345678 and for Encryption choose WPA2-AES, and voila! It will connect to this WiFi network and shows on your WiFi router client list!
If you want, you can use your router MAC whitelist to allow only this device MAC address to that SSID.
For the code to edit on the webpage of the device, see Gabriel Alonso Paniagua Castro's pinned comment below (KZbin won't allow the formatted code in the video description.
Be sure to rate, comment and share
And as always, thanks for watching

The load control was done with my Z-Wave home automation system. At the time, it was using a VeraLite controller and my DC relay module: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fn6yfWqXequgb9E I'll see if I can do something with the router setup. It's fairly specific to the router I have. But in short, you just click on the "static" link next to the device you want to set static in the Devices screen and then you can enter the IP address you want, or usually, I just use the assigned dynamic address. That way every time that device connects to the router, it gets that same address.

Not sure on the Android app, maybe check with Epever web site and see if they have one. I used the web interface as shown in the part 1 video. Or if you set it up to join your local network, you can port forward the eBox Wifi connection via the network serial port software I've showed how to set up in this video. That you would need to do via your local cable modem or however your local network connects to the internet. Then use the Epever Solar Station Monitor software as I used in this video.

@The4Crawler
@The4Crawler 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, no and probably. If you could get 4 of the earlier models like I have, then yes, you could connect to your local network and then forward all those ports to the remote location. However, the newer WiFI adapters no longer seem to support joining a local network and instead make their own hot spot, so the 1st option wouldn't work. The 3rd option would be to get a 4-port RS-485 terminal server. That device would connect to all 4 controllers via the RS-485 connector and then it would connect to your local network. Then simple open up the port(s) on your router or cable modem to allow access to those port(s) and do that same at the other end and then you should be able to make that connection.

The two sources of the virtual com port software both have serial to TC/IP converters: www.netburner.com/products/serial-to-ethernet/#compare www.hw-group.com/devices/ip-serial Or there are other link StarTech: amzn.to/2PtOkmO However, these are not inexpensive devices. A 4th option that I want to look into some day is setting up a Raspberry Pi to do this same thing. You could plug in from 1 to 4 USB - RS-485 cables from the various controllers into on RPi and use the built-in Ethernet or WiFi to connect into your local network. One of the comments below mentions a setup like this.

you're correct in this theory! (at least V1.00_50008) if you use a browser that supports editing html (and then running it), you can edit the drop-down to pass in value "STA" instead of "AP" and it will be accepted.. I used chrome, then right-click and "Inspect element" (on the drop-down in mode menu), and then changed from to and it worked. I guess other browsers have similar functions. This is the part of code that can be modified: AP Mode STA Mode ADDED BY ME Would be interesting to know what the value for AP+STA is? I didn't have the guts to test any other combinations after STA worked :) But I did test restoring to AP mode and repeating the process, with success... ======= Edit / extra info: Before I dared testing this, I also noticed this block of code, which supported your theory regarding just editing the menu..: var w_wmode = 'STA'; var init_select = function(){ var f=document.form_wmode; if(w_wmode == 'AP'){ f.wifi_mode.options.selectedIndex= 0; }else if(w_wmode == 'STA'){ f.wifi_mode.options.selectedIndex= 1; } } The android app still seems hardcoded to 11.11.11.254 though...maybe why they removed the option?

Is there a way to change the baud rate of the Netburner Virtual Comm port Software?
@The4Crawler
@The4Crawler 7 жыл бұрын
I don't think there is and really no need to do so. Why? It only receives complete packets of data from the TCP-server (in the WiFi box) and thus really could care less at what rate those serial bits came from the charge controller to the WiFi box. Think of it like one system reading each key you press on the keyboard then the system on the other end only gets the completed sentence when the Enter key is pressed. The receiving system has no idea how fast the keys were pressed or if they even were pressed in sequence or not.

R Brown actually, I plan on using the TTL UART(9600 baud) data of my EPEVER VS3048AU charge controller use esp-link to as I serial to wifi hardware. Now if the Netburner VC port, can not change to 9600 baud. I'm afraid I can't talk charge controller over wifi. I actually tester my ESP link and it works using Arduino. So my only issue now would be the netburner VCP.
@The4Crawler
@The4Crawler 7 жыл бұрын
The TCP server should be able to buffer up the serial data until it fills it's internal buffer then it sends out the contents of that buffer in a TCP/IP packet. I don't think there is any way to send individual serial bits over TCP/IP, nor would you want to as the overhead would be so high. At the least, the TCP server is likely buffering up at least 8 bits worth of serial data and sending that off. Once you have 8 bits of data, there is no longer a need to know how fast those 8 bits came into the server, the TCP-client just sees the 8 bits.

I had same problem, and it can be bypassed. If you use chrome browser; in the "Mode setting" menu, right click on the dropdown that currently shows "AP mode". Select Inspect from menu.... You should see XML browser in right pane. Right click on the (hopefully) selected node, and click "Edit as HTML" Then change from this: AP Mode To this: AP Mode STA Mode Click somewhere outside the editing box, and then go back to config screen. Now you can select STA and save and it works. (Instead of the above, just replacing value="AP" with value="STA" is what does the trick..)

My ebox wifi, when it's on AP mode, sometimes the DHCP server stops functioning on the ebox, so I'll need to specify my IP address as 11.11.11.2 (within 11.11.11.254) and then I am able to talk with it again (via emulated android EPEVER(Wifi) apk). I was having issues with the ebox in Station mode as well, it would work for a day and then stop. I have a hunch that in station mode, could have also tried to manually set its IP back to 11.11.11.254 so I will manually set its IP within my network range. I had the same issue with a Wansview X-series 1080p PTZ china camera, it even though the camera had the "Get DHCP from router" checked, the camera would default to its greyed-out hardcoded IP address. Will report back on if the hardcoded IP address is the reason why Station mode stops working after awhile.

@The4Crawler
@The4Crawler 7 жыл бұрын
Likely several solutions. You could use the TCP server built in to the eBox and then open up that port on your network router and then access that from outside the house. For several units in one place, there are 2 - 4 port RS485 terminal servers that you can purchase (check the links to the TCP server software in the video description). That would let you plug in several charge controllers into that one server box (no need for multiple eBox units) and then access that server remotely.

@The4Crawler

A qualified yes. You need to get the WiFi box to connect to a router that's connected to the Internet. Then you need to open up the port used by this box and forward traffic for that port through the router and to that device. At that point, yes you can connect to that WiFi box from anywhere you can get an Internet connection. Realize there is no user/password needed to access this device, although it is read-only type of data.

@@tbugti Setting up port forwarding will depend on what router/cable modem/DSL modem you have. Here's a page that covers that topic in detail: www.noip.com/support/knowledgebase/general-port-forwarding-guide/ In short, you set up a forwarding rule for the router that says network traffic for port XYZ should be sent to device ABC inside the local network. And no need for a PC or laptop to be on and connected to the WiFI box. The WIFi box is set up to join your local WiFi network, as shown in this video, and then it will be given a local IP address. That it's that local IP address that you use on the router when you set up the port forwarding. For example, say the WiFi box ends up on address 192.168.1.100 and it uses port 8080 as I recall. On the router, you would set up a forwarding rule that says network traffic for port 8080 gets forwarded to device 192.168.1.100 and port 8080. Note that the external port number and the internal port number don't need to be the same, but I try to leave them the same if possible to simplify things.

I use my WiFi router and assign each of the devices a static IP address. By default the WiFi adapter comes up in DHCP mode, asks the router for an IP address and the router gives it the address I told it to use. Then use the virtual serial port software to create a different COM port per IP address and that should to it. I think the HW-VSP software is limited to one COM port unless you use the multi-port version that comes with their hardware boxes. The netburner software seems to support multiple COMs, although it says "only for use with their hardware". If you do have a couple of controllers, it might be worth looking at one of either of those companies hardware boxes as I think they can have multiple RS485 ports connected to the one Ethernet or WiFI box.

@The4Crawler
@The4Crawler 7 жыл бұрын
Off hand I don't think that will work. The app seems to be hard coded for the eBox default IP address and if you put that box on your WiFi network/router it will pick up an IP address off your network. The box does have an AP/STA mode that lets it act as both an access point (AP) and station (STA), but that seems to leave it on the IP address of the local network. I don't know if it's possible to hack the app to change that default IP address, but if so, that would probably do the trick. Otherwise, if you have a PC at the cabin, use the PC application and then you could use remote desktop to access it. Or you can set up a remote TCP connection and access the box over that connection to a PC at a remote location.

Will vary depending on what's in the way like walls, etc. On mine, if I had it outside the house, I might get a weak signal on the far side of the house. I got a better signal if I moved the transceiver up into the attic of the house so it didn't have to pass through the wall. So that's something like 25 ft. / 8 m. away.

At the time I purchased mine, WiFi was the only option available, the BT version came out after that. But I wanted something I could connect to my local Wii network to a PC. I have the charge controller located on the other side of the house from the PC, not sure how far the BT signal would reach.

How do i set up a set up a static ip address?
@The4Crawler
@The4Crawler 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not aware of a way to do that on the WiFi adapter itself. You may be able to do that on your WiFi router. I know I can easily do that on mine (Sabai running the Tomato O/S). Just locate the MAC address of the WiFi adapter and then select that you want it to be a static IP (on your local network) and type in the IP address you want.

How are you controlling more than one load ?
@The4Crawler
@The4Crawler 7 жыл бұрын
I use my home automation system to control several 12VDC relays that switch various DC loads on and off automatically: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKPOd2SsatOCb9k Essentially it works as an intelligent "dump load" on my solar charge controller. I'm planning to do some videos on that setup in the near future, so stay tuned for that.

I finally made a series of videos on my updated diversion load project, starting with this one kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHvcYYeHopJ-otE This version is much better than my original system in that it gives a fine degree of control over the loads.

Hello, I managed to activate STA mod. Solar Station connects via wifi and sw HW virtual serial port to the controller, but reads only some data from it, It doesn't read all data ! I tried it on the other PC but the result was the same. Do you know what the problem is?
@The4Crawler
@The4Crawler 5 жыл бұрын
Just a guess, it might be the WiFi connection between the adapter and the WIFI access point. Mine seems to want to had a good signal, I had to extend the cable and move the adapter from the patio to up inside the attic of the house to eliminate the outside wall of the house from attenuating the signal. Also, try the settings in the software on the PC, maybe there's a timeout or buffer size setting that's affecting this.

@@jaimemunet3277 Read this posts: :-) Alexander Gustavsen Pred 6 mesiacmi I had same problem, and it can be bypassed.

Problem solved - the problem was in the correct HW virtual serial port settings - in the settings menu. All data from LS3024B are already being transferred to the Solar Station Monitor via home wifi... I will try to open port to internet now, and to transfer data to PC via Internet.

It is possible to switch to STA mode with 2018 version easily (tested with 1.00_50008): Reload button works after 5sec, but this is a hack, use at our own risk (and don't work with the mobile app) On a PC connected to the Ebox Wifi go to STA Setting menu and setup your settings with great attention Go to Mode Setting menu and press F12 in Edge browser Press Ctrl+F tape "AP Mode" and press Enter Right click on the line AP Mode select Edit HTML, add a new line and write STA Mode Click out on the html script On the web page, select STA Mode and press Save and Reset In DHCP case, on your router search lierda_liLink_xxxxxx to find your new IP
