Johnny, no doubt, the great rock and roll blues guitarist ever! We watched him rip the roof off at old summers on the beach in Ft Lauderdale, think was 91 or 92. I brought my speed metal nephew and his buddies, midnight Johnny blew us all away! And midnight Johnny is for real! God Bless his sole! Johnny, was mind blowing!! Love ya brother! Paul

I've been a Johnny Winter fan since 1969 when I heard his live album at school, of all places. I got to sit in the front row at Brisbane's Festival Hall to see Johnny in 1987, right in front of him! I don't think I blinked for the whole two hours! My wife couldn't stand him . . until that very night. On the way home in the car she couldn't stop praising his playing, his singing, and his humility. AND she wanted to take him home and give him a decent feed!

He played a nice long set and when you thought the show was over he introduced Edgar . They played another nice long set , including frankenstein and tobacco road to name a few. What a great show. Thanks Johnny. R I P

Johnny has been my guitar hero 🎸 since 1975. Saw him play many times. Highlight was when he was a guest of Muddy Waters at the Capitol Radio Jazz Festival at Ally Pally in London 1979. Awesome line up including James Cotton, Pinetop Perkins and Willie Big Eyes Smith. Johnny came on stage wearing top hat and tails during Walkin' Down Through the Park and the crowd went wild. A night to remember. RIP Johnny. Your work here on earth is done but you will live on in our hearts forever ♥ 🎸🎶

My greatest memory Was one time Johnny came to play Friday & Saturday In Vancouver's Commodore Ballroom Down on Granville Street which used to be Theatre Row .... Well on Friday I shot 100 ASA /35 mm with a flash , was right up front but Johnny hated the flash and avoided me .. I went back again Saturday this time with 400 asa and no flash ...He played in front of me most of the night ..was awesome ..then he played his last song went off stage ..everyone screaming for an encore ..Johnny comes out stands right in front of me ...Grabs the mike and says ...and now Id like to play '' right then I yelled up to him Bony Moronie Johnny looked down at me and yelled into the Mike ""BONY MORONIE"" ...Interacting with my hero like that is...Brings a big smile to my face every time I think about it ....All the photo's I shot of him over the 2 nights I got one with his eyes open ...he played with his eyes closed ....

If anyone can suggest blues rock solos that are on this level, please post your suggestion. IMHO Mike Bloomfield, Clapton, SRV, Freddie King, and Roy Buchanan are in that direction but JDW was untouchable in his ability to play blues/rock that is sustained, driving, melodic, and that has great cohesiveness without repetition.
