Was not expecting to hear the exact same thoughts I have on leadership. This isn’t to boast, but to actually thank you Jocko. This is what I tell folks all the time but they don’t listen and I start to wonder if I’m the crazy one.

As a young surgeon, I was late to get to an elective surgery… about an hour. I was in clinic and things backed up. When I got to the pre-op, I apologized to the nurse, anesthesiologist, and the patient. I felt like I did the right thing. I was in the changing room literally with my pants around my ankles changing as an older orthopedic surgeon got right in my face. He stated, “ YOU NEVER APOLOGIZE! IT IS NEVER YOUR FAULT!” Now I am the older surgeon… and I still own my mistakes. I am definitely not perfect. But I have never been sued…yet. A mentor told me this once and I really try to follow this. “A huge amount of compassion and compulsion makes it hard to hurt a patient.” RIP Dr. Burkhardt. You were one of the great ones😊

If you/we fail to lead by example, not just does everyone notice... It's all they'll/we'll talk about until you/we change, or (y)our position does. Lying, breeds distrust ("do they think we're stupid???"). Reliability & Trust, are not (always) the same. *Mutual Respect,* is *everything.*

Relationships rely on trust, respect, listening, influence, and care. When a leader builds these relationships and components into the team, they pay off in dividends.

❤ and mad respect to you all, Gentlemen!Been watching and listening whenever I only can. Praying to have the privilege to work and associate with true leaders and great teammates like y'all going forward. Right now it's just hunkering down and damage control that I can think of as the situation sucks. I know that and I need the courage and the audacity to act on it. Thank you for your invaluable wisdom and guidance!!!

Thank you Gentlemen, Thank you for reinforcing leadership capital. I look forward to learning more, and applying these fundamentals in my group of companies. Jocko’s words: (Lead from the front) resonates big time.

Self-employed gym owner here.... I tried the breath-hold. I was contractually £80k in debt to landlord for the next 2½years. I considered unaliving myself and cashing in my life insurance, to liquidate the business and keep a roof over my families head. Fortunately, a guardian angel whispered to me to just wait it out. Remember when they did the psychological experiments on drowning rats... they went from like 8mins, but then when saved once and reimmersed they would get to 60-HOURS. In the words of Alexander Usyk, I am very feels. In the reorg after covid, we put legal protection between the gym n my family home

I justified it with thoughts of a Samurai lifestyle, Dying a noble death and Extreme ownership for my gym. There wasn't any investors around. There wasn't any money. It was my last straw. No one can say I don't put myself on the line....but I must also remember we do not live in Feudal Japan. To these companies and to others, we are just numbers and services. The impact on family and my kids would've far outweighed the financial collateral damage I incurred or avoided.

Jocko I just recently started a new job in a field I have atleast 4 years of experience in, it’s been two days, their crew is squared away atleast in my department and I feel really comfortable already, I’ve been there for two days and have been asked to take a lower level management position, I’m really comfortable where I’m at but I could use the money and also an opportunity to start a path in leadership, I worry that I may overload myself in a new workplace and I worry that it might foster some resentments amongst the crew, I’m taking some time to meditate on what action I should take, any way you could cover the transition from a subordinate position to a position of leadership

Congrats on the new job and the crew being squared away. Transitioning to a leadership role is an important move, and your self-reflection is a positive sign that you're ready. If you focus on building relationships, listening, and empowering your team members, they will be more receptive to you becoming their leader. Create open channels of communication, and ask for their ideas and feedback. If the team wins, everyone wins, so remember this mentality. For more guidance, check out our program on the Extreme Ownership Academy, discussing "Extreme Ownership for Middle Management" - academy.echelonfront.com/courses/extreme-ownership-for-middle-management/ Best of luck on your leadership path.

I have a question/topic. As a leader how can process stress of a mission/project. I find myself waking at night worrying about the next days issues and feel it’s impacting not just my performance at work but also at home.

Understand and write down what you are TRUELY stressed about and then write down how much of that is in your control to fix. Like for example: client has some files to deliver and if not delivered we cannot move forward and every day cost is high. Well in this case what can you do as a leader? Can you remind the client to deliver the files? Can you send someone to pick them up? Can you prepare your team for the incoming work? Taking ownership of the things which are in YOUR control is the best thing you can do and have a good night sleep and your home life. Stay cool and do everything in YOUR power to work it out.

Facing stress in leadership is inevitable, but if you are proactive with the problem and its effects, you can mitigate the determined. Start by using the tool "Prioritize and Execute." Before you go to bed, write down three things you need to accomplish the next day, and get them done. Not only will you feel a stronger sense of accomplishment at the end, but you will start out each day organized and ready to get after it.

These 2 are in actual complete denial about how staff mind set works, the staff aren’t invested like you are , and shouldn’t be expected to be. That’s delusional. They aren’t getting the exponential rewards in most cases
